Question about 2006 Honda Insight

1 Answer

2006 Honda Accord fuel economy

I just bought a used Accord Hybrid and the fuel economy is terrible. The car never goes into auto assist and the battery only charges 4 bars and then stops. Is this a battery problem that is causing the fuel economy? I am getting 15 mpg in town and 30 on the hwy if I am lucky.

This sounds very much like an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA Battery) issue. Call the dealer and check if there are any warranty/recall items on it. I've owned my 2000 Honda Insight for 5 years now and it had this issue a couple years back. They replaced a battery control module free of charge and that fixed it. Then earlier this year the battery finally expired after 165,000 miles and 10 years, which is amazing and it was less than $2k for a new one and installation. I love Honda because they stand behind their hybrids.
Otherwise, the good news is all Honda IMA systems will let you continue to drive even if the whole hybrid system has completely failed. If you don't feel like spending the money to get it fixed, don't! By driving with a light foot, avoiding unnecessary hard acceleration and practicing other fuel efficient driving techniques you should be able to get just as good mileage as if the car was new, but just without the extra acceleration kick.

Which gas is better to use in a 2003 Honda Accord v6

If you are using 91 octane and there are problems with performance and economy and pinging in the engine under acceleration then shift up to 98 octane . I would steer clear of any e- fuels as they are not doing the job generally. Any Honda hand book will have the recommended octane rating for your engine.

What are the possible causes of High Fuel Consumption in Honda Accord 94 UK

I've come across some with engines that needed a tune up, but in some cases it's the automatic transmission that is not working correctly causing bad fuel economy. What do you think is the problem in yours?

My 2006 VW Velocity start but does not idle. What can possible the problem

sounds like a bad idle control sensor, most garages charge $75.00 for a diagnostic, the sensor is about $45.00 it could also be a bad fuel filter, have you been burning 87 octane fuel?[cheapest fuel] ethanol fuel is'nt good for your v.w. at least try to use 89 0ctane but no ethanol fuel!! you can use 87 octaneBUT you need to add octane booster with it, which you can get at the dollar general,wal-mart,k-mart,auto zone, advance auto it's really an economy thing though. what ever your budget is, i have a 87 toyota van and use it every day for qa mechanic svc. i buy 89 octane fuel,i've bought 87 octane and everytime i have,i've had to replace the fuel filter. merry christmas!! and as always, if you need further assistance please repost your question and an expert will be happy to assist you!!

My 95 honda accord gets terrible feul milage what can I do to improve it? Does my making 92 or 95 octane gas make much of a difference. My latest oil change I used the cheapest oil does that affect feul...

A heavier weight oil can reduce fuel economy. But the brand of oil will not. The difference would most likely not be noticed though as it will be minute. The higher octane gas burns at a different rate and should not be used. Your vehicle wants the 87 octane fuel and you should use it. There is no advantage of buying the high test in this vehicle. It only costs you more. The biggest factor you can control is the way you drive. Aggressive acceleration and braking will be one of the biggest economy reducers you will notice on a properly running vehicle.
