The sway bar is broke. That is common on cars all of a sudden. They are making them cheaper every day.

So it was not the axles?

If it is the bar that goes from one side to the other its the sway bar. Does the vehicle still go down the road ok? If it does its not the drive axles.

no it does not move at all we parked in a near by complex.

Ok then it is a drive axle. If you would have told that it didn't move before, I would have figured that out sooner.

you will have to replace the half shaft. remove wheel, remove axle nut, separate the lower ball joint pull axle half shaft out of spindle assembly, pull rest of axle out of transmission. install new half shaft in reverse order.

I heard something snap and then noticed that the rear of the car drives very bumpy

Can you provide more info? Did you hit a bump? What do you mean by 'drives bumpy?' Does it ride rough, or does it go up and down a lot after you hit a bump, or something else? Can you further describe the snap you heard, and what was going on when you heard it and immediately afterward (e.g., driving 40 mph on a paved road, hit a pot hole, heard a loud 'breaking' sound as if something snapped/broke, and the ride of the car seemed to immediately change to being more harsh/rough)? Have you had any work done recently, such as tires changed or rotated, struts replaced, wheel alignment, or brakes replaced? Did anything else change (e.g., now when you hit a bump, you hear a new noise in the rear)? Were you carrying anything heavy in the trunk or back seat? I had a '99 Corolla for several years, and had zero problems other than a worn out driver's door handle and a couple of cracked windshields. Great car choice!

Sounds like your wheel bearing went bad and took out the toner ring. Or? Maybe brake pad broke off and did the damage. hard to tell without looking at it..

sounds like you possibly broke a ball joint...jack up the wheel and see if it has a lot of side play...do up and down also. if not sure i would i would have it checked by a mechanic...have you ever seen those cars on the side of the road with the front wheel collapsed!! you want to be on the safe side.
