How would i found out if head gasket is blown?

Had oil changed at wal-mart, ran fine, week or 2 later wouldn't start, turning over but not starting, changed fuel filter, then checked air filter, oil in air filter, had to push van up hill backwards into our driveway, hit a hole and seemed like a lot of oil come pouring from engine, not oil pan, how would I make sure it is head gasket?

SOURCE: My ranger run's fine on level but on hill's

you got head gasket problems, white smoke is an indication of water turning to steam, probably doing uphill because the engine is under greater load.i think the knocking is pre ignition, carry out an engine compression test to verify your head gaskets integrity

I think the head gasket has blown again. If the head was not skimmed correctly or installed correctly it will blown the gasket again. The fact that the water is bubbling in the reservoir but the gauge staying in the middle means the water is not actually boiling but venting air/gas from the cylinders to the water reservoir. Check for a whitish grey substance in the inside of the oil filler cap indicating water getting into the engine oil. Also with start up - the engine will misfire badly but improve after a while. Take it back to the mechanic as he should guarantee his workmanship.

Usually a sign of something draining the battery.
The machine test probably showed the battery could hold a charge and the alternator was charging the battery.
You may need to have someone check for a power drain.
When the key switch is off, there may be a weak short to ground or a relay or component that is using power.

Oil is getting n my radiator it is a cream color & thick like a gravy, my truck hasnt been running hot until a few weeks ago due 2 it getting so thick and wont rotate, everyone says its a cracked

Sounds like you either have a cracked cylinder head, or more likely, a blown head gasket. Get the gasket changed, and have the head inspected and tested while it's off.

1997 Toyota Truck 4 Runner 4WD 3.4L EFI DOHC 6cyl, blown head gasket?

Could be a blown head gasket. You might also need to "burp" the system. When the vehicle is completely cooled down, try taking the radiator cap off, topping off fluid, and start the engine. That should help get air out. If it starts bubbling and shooting coolant out, something is wrong. You could also try running without the thermostat or just go ahead and replace it. They aren't usually expensive.

96 Firebird, Replaced water pump, fuel pump - Now blows head gasket.

Get yourself another mechanic. This guy is not doing his job. It shouldn't cost $1600 to change a water pump and fuel pump. No proper mechanic would remove a thermostat to replace the O-ring and put the old thermstat back in. It wouldn't be uncommon for the coolant level to drop after changing the thermostat. It probably only needs to be topped up. No, the motor doesn't have to come out to replace the head gasket and I don't see it costing $2500. Before you spend any more money there, take the car somewhere else and get another opinion. I bet that if you fill up the coolant bottle for 2 0r 3 days it will stop losing coolant. Hope this helps.

Coolant leaking into oil, what is the cheapest way to fix this?

SOUNDS LIKE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET! YOU CAN TRY A WATERGLASS LEAK REPAIR THRU RADIATOR! WATERGLASS IS A COMPONENT LIQUID IN THE RADIATOR LEAK PRODUCTS THRU PARTS STORES, OR WAL-MART! THEN CHANGE OIL! IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, YOU'LL HAVE TO REPLACE HEAD GASKETS!

Hi, check you have heat coming out the heater in the car put it on hottest setting and see what happens if it comes out cold then the chances are the head gasket has gone and is pushing gasses into the coolant system causing an air lock and then over heating.

check the oil for signs of a white substance look on the oil level stick and also inside the oil filler cap if their is any signs of milky substance then this is proof head gasket has gone.

let me know what you find out ok
