Not sure what the hell to do. part of the ignition is hanging below the steering wheel. I can start the car with a paperclip or screwdriver now.

Can't find the part that the key used to go in. What is it called?

THESE CAN BE PURCHASE AFTER MARKET WITH NEW KEYS IF YOU STILL HAVE THE OLD KEYS YOU CAN GET A NEW ONE FROM THE DEALER THAT WILL FIT YOUR OLD KEY TO PUT THE SWITCH IN UNDO THE BOTTOM CONSOLE COVER SOMEWHERE UP INSIDE THAT COVER WILL BE A SMALL PIN TO PUSH IN WHICH WILL RELEASE THE IGNITION BARRELIN SOME CASES THE KEY MUST BE IN THE BARREL TO COMPLETELY ACTIVATE THE PIN TO RELEASE THE BARREL

I have a 2202 Impala. Three weeks ago I attempted to start my car, nothing happened. No click,buzz..nothing. For about ten minutes I jiggled the key, put the key in and out of the ignition several times...

Yes, this your anti theft security failing. Its having a hard time receiving the transponder signal from your key. When it doesnt get this signal, it turns off the starter to prevent theft. It basically thinks its getting stolen so it shuts down. The problem is in the diagnoses. It might be the key, the ignition/lock cylinder, or the TDM computer itself. (Theft Deterrent Module) All are expensive and pointless to fix. Your cheapest route is to bypass the whole system and never worry again. The average life on these systems is 6-10 years. Here is a link with info and some DO IT YOURSELF ways to beat this. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

We replaced a ignition switch in a 1997 chevrolet lumina a week ago and now the security light came on and is staying on. what is the problem now?

YOUR THEFT DETERRENT DONT RECOGNIZE THE NEW KEY AND SWITCH.YOU NEED TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP LET THEM REPROGRAM IT.BECAUSE WHEN SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING CAR THE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM AND PCM THINK CAR IS BEING STOLEN WHICH IT COULD SHUT OFF FUEL PUMP DISABLING CAR IN TRAFFIC WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS.

Turn the key but nothing happens all electrics

Not all replacement parts are good. I would guess that the new ignition switch is bad. Its also possible that the wiring harness is loose where its connected to the ignition switch. You could try jiggling the wires.
