SOURCE: 2004 VW Passat just over

Could be a faulty fuel pump, they are notorious for acting unpredictibly when they start to go bad. My bet is in a week it won't start at all. Try banging on the fuel tank the next time it won't start, if that fixes it it is prbably a fuel pump.

Running you fuel pump until its at E is hard/bad on your fuel pump since gasoline is the fuel pumps lubrication.

SOURCE: New battery in 03 VW Passat, engine turns but will not start.

Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Passat will NOT start every morning.

I agree with bs77bird, I would also try running some sea foam in the gas tank and in the crank case oil. I swear by that stuff!! you can get it at any local auto zone try this link for a visual reference http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sea-Foam-Motor-Treatment_W0QQitemZ170411821067QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_100?hash=item27ad56080b

SOURCE: 2003 automatic VW Passat not changing gears right

The trannys on the vw's are weird, they actually have a brain which tells the tranny what to do, when to switch gears under the driving conditions etc. Is thair a check engine light on? when is the last time you had a tranny service done on it? Also, it sounds even weirder, but is your alternator ok, is it putting out the proper volts to the battery? the alternator not charging the system can lead to alot of weird acting issues.

SOURCE: 2000 VW Passat won't start/car alarm goes off/stuck in anti-theft

My car, 2000VWPassat, is doing exactly the same thing as of Wednesday April 7, 2010. The dealer has been looking at it for 6 hours and they said they have absolutely no clue what is happening. They are elevating it to an "engineer".

Most likely the battery. Most auto parts stores will check it for free with the hopes that you will buy your replacement from them.

I left a mirror light on overnight without noticing. it discharged the battery to the point of almost not starting in the morning. but it did start and run just fine. I had to re set the clock though. ...

I was told about that and what I remember is this:....The history that the car's computer has stored to keep your car running properly is lost when the battery goes dead....then when the battery is charged the computer has to gain back all that data to properly tune your car. Suposidly it takes 30 starts and drives to regain enough data to get back where you were.
Some are not sure that's true but I believe it.
