you can get the gasket for about $20. REmove the pan bolts and it should drop straight down. When you tighten back up make several rounds around the pan tightening bolts so they tighten evenly. DO NOT fully tighten each bolt before moving to the next bolt.
if you take itt in plan on paying about $150 to $200.
Spray some carb cleaner around the intake manifold you may have a leak there or possibly a vacume leak. If the idle changes when spraying thats where you look. good Luck
Shift modulator on the transmission may be bad, or clogged filter. Maybe time to changed oil and filter. Also a simple adjustment on the trans kickdown cable, or a new cable. The cable can stretch enough to cause a shifting problem.
i cant be sure but . if you look at your oil refill cap on the valve cover where i think it is. it is written right on the cap as to what the manufactorer says to use..i think it says 5w30. me personally i live where we have pretty good winters.good meaning bad feet not inches. i use 10w30 in the winter you dont want an oil that is to thick when it is cold in the winter.. and in the summer i use 10w40.. and once again, you dont want an oil that will become to thin with summer heat. but the worse part is your oil will break down because of road heat.hence the heavier viscosity in summer
30 psi would be better but if it comes up after applying throttle you maybe idling too low or you maybe using a viscsity of oil too low for the heat range you are operating the vehicle in.
If the remainder of the vehicle is in good condition, then it may be worth the effort. When you have the heads off, check between the valves for any cracking or you may have more problems after back together. Total cost of gaskets to do that should run under $300. If you had any oil consumption or other problems it may be worth considering removing it and doing a total rebuild, depending on your finances and time constraints. It's a good reliable engine and not that difficult to work on.
