My drivers side seat is all the way forward and im a tall guy, when i click the seat button on the door i hear the seat click but nothing else, is it my seat motor or is it something else, passenger side works fine
Hi, I have a1983 Riviera that just had the same problem. Try taking the switch out of the driver door armrest and switching it with the passenger side switch. If the seat then works, it isn't the motor, it is the switch. You can then use that switch to position your seat until you can get your driver seat switch repaired or replaced. The switches are actually quite easy to take out. Pull the entire switch assembly out of the armrest. The switch is held in by two small screws. Then you have to unscrew a blue cap that is holding the wiring harness onto the switch. Pry up on the wiring harness until it comes off of the switch. The passenger side switch comes out the same way and will easily press onto the driver side harness, but everything will work backwards. I hope this helps. I actually pulled my bad switch apart and tried to clean it, and when I put it back together again it worked! I hope this helps you.
You have a damaged drive gear in the seat, the parts are no longer sold for this ol of a model so your best bet is to try and locate a used one.

yes it the same motor, the problem u will find is the seat control switch, it is the most common failure in any power seat system.
SOURCE: how do you open the hood on a 1985 Buick Riviera with broken cabl
This happened to me, crawl under front of car drivers side with a metal coat hanger, make a 90 degree bend on end of hanger & start fishing for the lever, just keep bending the hanger & take your time it can be done. The hole in the metal you will be fishing thru is only about 4" square. When you catch the lever gently pull towards drivers side of car. Tom-Ala

I believe it is underneath car just in front of rear axle. There is a connecting linkage to axle so when car rides low the switch engages the compressor.
