Bossman there is no fast or simply way of fixin this problem!! However for a temperaury solution. You can take one heater hose off under the hood at the heater coreand undo the other one at the intake then connect the hoses coming out of the heater core to itself so nothing gets inside the heater core and do the same with the intake so that you dont have a mess!! To fix your problem you are going to have to remove your dash back and undo the heater box to get to the heater core!!

allow the system to cool down
take radiator cap loose to release pressure
once pressure is released tighten cap
loosen clamps on the heater hoses in the engine compartment on the pass. side of firewall.
plug or cap off the heater core tubes to prevent spillage when you pull it into the truck
place a trash bag on floorboard in case spillage occurs
remove the five screws holding the heatre core access cover, three on top and two on bottom
carefully pull heater core back and down and remove it from the dash
install is reverse
Hope this helps

225.00 bucks including parts labor, you might find a local mechanic will do it for 100.00 buck for labor and you buy the part 49.00 buck. lots of GM mechanic are laid off and economy is slow and you might want to advertise on craig list needing GM mechanic. my best secrets is drive back to the GM garage and ask any mechanic who does the side work and you will be surprise. keep in mind dont ask the shop manager, believed me every dealership has one or more does a side job and good price, no shop rate. hope that help some good luck.
