If you take the time to drop the fuel tank you might as well replace the fuel pump module. this will come with a new fuel pump and level sending unit. DO NOT USE AN AIRTEX brand. they will leave you with more problems! Get an a/c delco or delphi pump. make sure to replace the fuel filter at the same time.

Why will my gas gage stay at full on my 2001 excursion

The gauge is faulty or the sending unit in the fuel tank is bad ! There is away to test it, find a wiring diagram an locate the two wires at the fuel pump sending unit connector . Go to radio shack or some other electronics store an buy some resistors of differing resistance , I'm not sure of resistor sizes , I will look it up on my ford service info system. If you jump the right resisters into the fuel sending unit circuit you can make the gauge show 1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4 an full. If it move to those positions with the right size resistors it's not the gauge but the sending unit in the gas tank ! Diagnosis of Stuck Fuel Gauge Is it Gauge or Sending Unit

98 gmc jimmy fuel guage not working

No issues with the fuel guage that I know of , but you can follow the basic troubleshooting guidelines. Starting with the wiring disconnect at the fuel tank for a bad connector or bad connection. Only other connection would be up to the instrument cluster in the vehicle. Only replaceable items would be the guage or the sending unit in the fuel tank. You can disconnect the return line circuit or connector at the at the gas tank and jump a wire to the ground the that feeds the gauge and see if the guage moves, but don't and i repeat don't hold to long because the guage will go over hard over and could damage the guage. If the guage moved and I would suspect a bad float on the sending unit or a bad sending unit, either case the fuel pump assy would have to come out for repairs.

Fuel gauge problem

Could be either one.
You could disconnect the harness at the tank and ground the gauge circuit to see if the gauge will go to full. If it does chances are the problem is the sending unit in the tank.

Replaced fuel pump now fuel gauge isn't working

sending units get knocked out of calibration when they change the pump.(carelessly).if you can.. check the top of the tank, to see if they plugged it in firmly. if not, raise heck till the change it. (doubt they will). other than the wires, not much you can do, without dropping the tank.

Sometimes my gauge works and most time my low fuel light stays on then sometimes i look and my gauge is working and light is off I've been told my pump in my tank is bad is this the only fuel pump or are...

chevrolets are notorious, as well as 1995 and older jeep wranglers for the sending units in the tank going bad as i have a 2001 chevy 2500 truck now with a bad sending unit. some parts stores can get the sending unit by itself but its usually pretty hard to find and ends up costing as much if not more than just buying the complete fuel pump assembly. hope this helps

The fuel gage on my 1998 Jimmy periodically stops working would this be a ground problem?

could be or just the gauge itself failing.......iot's also possible that the float in the tank is getting hung up

Have a 2001 gmc jimmy...drove home gas gauge read 1/4 tank..next day cranked over but wont start..gas gauge reads empty...put $10.00 from spare gas can..cranked over but no start ..gas gauge still reads...

chevy and gmc trucks have an on going problem with this, turn the key on,and get a rubber mallot or a hammer and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a couple of times, this will unstick something in the fuel pump/sending unit.

Gas gauge on 95 Buick Roadmaster needs changed possibly. Works full tank to 7/8 - 1/4. Easy to change?

this is not the gas gauge, this problem is caused by the gas gauge sending unit inside the gas tank, drop the gas tank and rep[lace the fuel pump/sending unit module, about $200 for the part from rockauto.com.
