My 2003 f150 pulls to left when i initially apply brakes,then straightens out.I replaced both calipers,rotors and pads.bled air out of lines and problem still exist's.


Check the rubber bushings on the front suspension arms, especially the lower radius leading arms. When you brake the inertia of the car is thrown forward and the lower arms come under enormous strain. If the radius arm to body frame bushing has gone then the leading arm moves rearwards slightly and causes toe out on the front wheel. If one side is weaker than the other then the car steers/pulls in the direction of toe out. If these check out then look at the ball joints on the steering arms and the steering links. Use a pry bar and be quite forceful, its a big truck and there should be no movement.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, properly disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), as detailed in Chassis Electrical .
  2. Elevate and safely support the front of the car.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Loosen the nut at the rear of the radius rod. Remove the nut, washers, bushing, etc. Keep them in the correct order for reinstallation.
  5. Remove the bolts securing the rod to the control arm. Remove the rod.

To install:

  1. Inspect the bushings carefully for wear or deformation. Replace them if any damage is found.
  2. Fit the rod into place and install the bolts at the control arm. Tighten the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) on Accords through 1989 and Preludes through 1991. On 1990-95 Accords and 1992-95 Preludes, tighten the bolts to 76 ft. lbs. (105 Nm).
  3. Install the bushings, washers and spacers on the rod. Install a new locking nut. On all except 1992-95 Preludes, tighten the end nut to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm). On 1992-95 Preludes, tighten the nut to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  4. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
  5. Properly enable the SRS system, if equipped, and connect the negative battery cable.

I have a missing bushing on my front end of my 98 Ford f 150 but not sure what its called?


most likely the bushing you are refering to is called a radius arm bushing if it is 4x4,if it is not the it would be upper or lower control arm bushings

Steering is loose, lots of play in steering wheel


you need to do what i call a dry check i do before performing an alignment have someone sit in truck and shift steering wheel from side to side lightly while you look at steering components check for loose pitman arm,drag link if used inner tie rods outer tie rods or excessive play in steering box then jack up each front wheel and check upper and lower ball joints

Suspension The independent front suspension (IFS) system is composed of a two-piece front driving axle, two front coil springs (5310) and two radius arms. The front driving axle consists of two independent axle arms. One end of each axle arm is anchored to the frame (5005). The other end of each axle arm is supported by the front coil springs and radius arm.

1995 e150 ford van,, 4.9 6cyl i need to replace the bushings on the radius arms. do i need to remove the springs or do the radius arms , just unbolt (front and the back) and remove? i appreciate your help....


Hi Darrell,
No the springs will remain in place,You will need new bolts and nuts before you start the job,they are 1/2 x one inch.you'll need five of them.unfortunately there are three large rivets you will need to torch off besides the other three bolts and nuts. Remove the radius arm nut and outer bushing before you loosen the arm.

When i hit the brakes hard and fast the front end makes a clunk noiseon the driver side.


the most probable cause of that clunk is the radius arm bushings need replacing i have done LOTS of those . if you are not a mechanic or have limited skill this repair is fairly difficult..( not being rude just trying to save you a headache ) the radius arm extends rearward from front axle to frame..one on each side . look at the bushings where it goes through the frame bracket there should be a rubber bushing on both sides of that frame bracket and they should be compressed with no gap.. i hope that helps

How do I replace left Radius Arm insolator on 1996 F-150 2x4


Pretty easy for the regular backyard mechanic to do. First drive up to a pretty good sized tree so you are almost directly in front of it head on. loosen the nut on the back. Using a come along pul the front left side to pull your radius arm from the hanger. change out the front bushing and loosen the come along slowly so you can line the radius arm back into the hanger....a jack may be needed even though I have never had to use one. once the radius arm is back in place replace the rear bushings and torque to 200 ft lbs. i think its 200 ft lbs but check with a repair manual or ask a mechanic to make sure.

Hope this helps yah cause I have done it this way on alot of vehicles I have owned and it doesnt cost nearly what it does to take it in and have it professionaly done. And it only takes about 45 minutes to do a side. But do both if replacing the bushings on one side, always do the other also.

I have a 1995 eddie bauer bronc with a clank.


There is a few things that can cause that,..#1 is the axle shaft universal could be worn out and to check it grab the axle shaft and try to twist it back and forth to check if its loose..#2 could be the brake caliper loose or the brakes are moving around in the caliper,#3 also could be the radius arm bracket cracked at the radius arm itself which is about a $25.00 part (not including the bushings which are about $15.00 a set)check these things as my 94 Bronco has been through all of every sound and clunk with 230,00 miles
