I would need to know what year, make, model and engine size? Most are fairly easy to get at and only require a 10mm socket and about 20 minutes of time.

Trucks and caravans have the crank sensor in the bell housing of the transmission. Cars can be behind the timing cover, in the engine block, or in the bell housing.

let me know what you have and I'll get you pointed in the right direction.

SOURCE: crank position sensor location

you will need to remove the starter to gain acess to the ckp sensor. once you remove the starter look on the engine block and you will see the sensor. The only problem with doing this repair yourself is that you will not be able to preform the crankshaft position variation learn procedure with out a factory scan tool. The vehicle may crank an run, but the timing advance curves will be wrong so the vehicle will probably cut off every time you remove your foot from the gas pedal. Hope this info helps!

SOURCE: jeep wrangelr Crank Position Sensor

wall5552: there were two engines used in 1992 Jeep Wranglers.
A 2.5 liter and a 4.0 liter. HOWEVER>>>> The location for the crank angle sensor is the same for both.
It is located on the bell housing up near the front at about the 10:00 PM position.
The Cam position sensor is located in the Distributor on both engines as well.

How do i replace a crank shaft sensor on a 2001 buick lesabre

The crankshaft sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer. There is a special tool you can rent/loan from your local auto parts store in order to remove the harmonic balancer. Once it is off 2 bolt hold the crankshaft position sensor in place. Note there could be many other factors causing your engine to stall or not restart; but those crank sensors do tend to go out on those engines.

Find crank position sensor

The crankshaft position sensor should be located behind the vibration damper/harmonic balancer and it will have to be removed before the crankshaft position sensor can be replaced. (Let me know if you require assistance with the proceedure)

Also, it usually requires a special tool to align that sensor (available from most auto part stores) and if the sensor is not properly aligned then damage to the sensor or the tone ring can occur.

Here is an image of the crankshaft position sensor with the vibration damper/harmonic balancer removed.

Engine light is on...replaced gas cap twice...Mechanic says it is the oxygen sensor but then gave me a $1,000 quote on labor alone to replace the part...

Man, that seems high. this sensor is located in the exhaust system, usually close to the maifold. Lood for something in the exhaust, with a wire going to it.
you might need special tool.

Try a crank sensor. It's next to the crankshaft pulley and the pulley has to come off to replace. Special tools required.

Change a crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 eclipse

Is this a V6 or 4cyl???>>>(V6) This requires removing the Harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). Remove (R) front wheel, remove engine splash Guard, Remove crank pulley, remove lower timing belt cover. The Crank sensor is located behind the crank shaft pulley!! I highly recommend having this done by a certified tech, requires special tools. Hopefully this helps!!

1996 honda civic just stopped running, no warning. no spark.

Could be a half dozen causes, probably the crank angle sensor or throttle position sensor. Take it a mechanic, you need special tools to diagnose.

It starts then it stalls, sometimes it starts right up some times it doesn

It could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor - My 1993 Bonneville with a 3.8 had the same issue, I replaced that and it works great now.
It had codes:
17, and 18 I think, or maybe 19 stored. Which was Cam Position sensor, and Crank position sensor problem.
The crankshaft position sensor is easy to replace, if you have access to a pulley puller, some tools and a jack or lift. Some motors need a special tool for an adjustable thing, but most dont have that anymore as I think they recalled it and replaced it on all.
I think they run about 30-60 for a new one, and takes about an hour to replace.
If it is intermittent start problem that may be it. Mine would start fine for a while, then sometimes after Id turn it off, it would just crank and crank, It would start after waiting about 5-30 mintues, while trying to crank it every couple minutes. When driving down the road, it sometimes would stall when turning or stopping.
Hope this helps - Jarett *mechanic with 14 years of experience
