Question about GMC Jimmy

I just had the fuel pump replaced on my '96 Jimmy and now it is really hard to turn right. Turning left is fine, but I really have to crank it hard to turn right. Any ideas on what is wrong?

I heard it could be the power steering pump. If this is the problem, how much should I expect to pay?

I'd check the belt, likely the same belt for both fuel pump and PS pump. See if the tension is sufficient and that there is no oil or contaminant on the belt, causing it to slip. Good luck.

SOURCE: locked steering wheel

try to spray inside the key lock cylinder (the place where u put ur key ) by PB puster or WD40 then turn the steering wheel lift and right with try to turn the key to position on

easy as beans first you check the fuses have a friend help you if you cant find the fuse box. if then is one burned replace it then see what happens if nothing happens and you have a few tools you can do these other things. find the fuel filter and pull one end off and crank the the moter a few times if no fuel comes out the pump is shot ouch that when the hard part comes it but before we get into that you will need to find the fuel pump relay and take it out and try to jump it with a wire this is where a friend that has car know how comes in handy take a short peace of wire and put one end in one slot of where the relay pluged in and put the other end the other slot and see if any fuel comes out the fuel line u unhooked if nothing still comes out then the pump is really a gonner. now if you want you can replace the pump your self with the help of a friend and some tools now you dont need a whole shop just to do it and its much cheaper then taking it to someone.

2000 GMC Jimmy 4.3L CSEFI won't crank. Fuel pressure is 50psi and should be between 55 to 60psi. Fuel filter 1yr old and fuel pump is probably stock & needs replaced but never had problem before...

Check your starter and check your connections to make sure they are clean and tight. The low fuel pressure won't cause a no crank. Too low could cause a no start but not a no crank. I've had starters be bad right out of the box. But if that starter motor isn't turning either the starter motor is bad or the solenoid attached or the wiring to it is at fault.

My 96 gmc jimmy fuel pump is not turning on , ran truck to work shut it off then went to start it up and just cranks, cant here the fuel pump turn on anymore?

first and easiest, check the fuel pump relay under the hood. if it is good, its a 99% guarantee the pump went bad. 100% if the tank is full! lol

My 2000 GMC Jimmy cranks but wont start unless i try repeatedly or pour fuel into the intake , then it runs fine until i let it sit for hours and then the sameproblem occurs... any ideas info. or know how...

Hi, had same problem with my truck. you need to replace your fuel pump because it no longer holds the pressure in your fuel rail. If you cycle your ignition on and off multiple times(this will cycle the fuel pump relay) with out turning over the engine then start it normally, that is the problem.

My 99` jimmy will not turn over.I had the fuel pump replaced. It seem like it`s not getting in gas. I was wondering do jimmy trucks have a fuel shutoff valve in the back.

your statement is "my jimmy won't turn over"
why are you concerned about the fuel pump?
the fuel pump only supplys fuel to the injectors while the engine is cranking over & runing. You should be looking at a dead battery or faulty starter. Its also possible the engine is locked up. But I would start by trying to jump the battery. If the starter is starting to fail, sometimes you can use a small hammer and lightly hit the starter while someone else is turning the key, this method can be dangerous to the person under the car so be carfull, but it can cause the starter to rotate enough to catch and crank the engine over properly.

If your concern is that the engine is cranking over & wont start, that a different issue.
Your truck does not have a fuel shut off like some Ford products. You can simply depress the shreader valve in the fuel line while the key is on & you should get a lot of fuel to spray out. This would indicate the pump is working and the problem maybe electrical, no spark.

Need to check for fuel pressure and volume. If you turn the key on and you have pressure, then you should be able to start and run. If your fuel pressure gauge has a releif hose on it, then while running, dump fuel into a jug and the engine should stay running. If the vehicle will not start but cranks over, then turn the key off and on a few times. the fuel pump will only stay on for a few seconds and cycle off. Sounds like you are losing your fuel prime from the pump to the engine. Only fix is to replace the fuel pump if you are losing your prime.

When you hook the pressure test guage to shrader valve on fuel rail what it reads is what the pressure is from pump, around 60 p.s.i. all you need to do is hook up the guage and turn on key, you do not have to turn engine over, and if pump is good it will shoot up to 58 or 60 right now.

Hard start when cold/first start in morning

The pressure relief valve is in the spider fuel injector not the fuel pump. We have had our 94 gmc jimmy for 4 years & have had to replace the fuel injector 4 times which cost right at $500 each time for the part. Yes the spider fuel injector cost averages around $500.
