How to test a CVVT (intake) sensor on a 2000 Volvo S80?

I have a P1330 code on my 2000 Volvo S80, indicating a malfunction of the CVVT (intake) sensor. I removed it and cleaned it with carb cleaner with no success. Before I replace it I would like to be able to test if it's good or bad. It's an expensive part. The wiring to the unit looks okay. Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: Does anyone no of a cold air intake for a 1999

Here is the secret to cold air intakes. Because the filter is sitting in the middle of a hot engine bay, they are actually not any help, actually more of a problem, because they pull in cold air, they pull in hot air which is not what you want. To do it properly, you need to have he filter in an enclosed box that recieves outside air. So, I wouldn't bother with it.

02 sensor bank 1 circuit 1 2000 Volvo S80

This is a fault for the first O2 sensor, It is important to know the added info scanners provide about the electrical fault detected (can indicate mixtures, heater circuit, slow response or plain electrical fault) Keep in mind depending on the missing info you can have an air leak from the pcv system, evap system or a small hole in the Induction/Intake hoses, What engine do you have?

2000 Volvo s80 t6 engine will not start.

I'm too familiar with the T6 engine, but I *think* the T6 engine has the CVVT solenoid right by the exhaust cam and they are known to get weird and you need to clean it.
I believe Volvo has a gasket with a screen in it to keep it clean.

The cam sensors are pretty sturdy and rarely fail, so I'd check that last.

Did this happen right after a timing belt change? If so, I'd double and triple check that you got everything lined up exactly right. My process is usually to use white-out to mark the old belt and gears and then transfer the marks to the new belt and if all marks still line up when it's back together I am good (and yes, it's been good this far hehe).

If it's the CVVT sensor, buy a new gasket, remove the sensor, soak it in carb cleaner and give it a "work-out" with 12 volts if you have a battery charger or whatnot. It's possibly a fresh 9v battery might work too.

If you got any other codes, even if you don't think they're related, they might be.

I wouldn't touch any other systems if the car would run before and now won't, and all you touched is the cam timing and that's the code you got. Fix that first, THEN if you have other issues, you can tackle them.

No start

It sounds like the cams are out of sync. There are very specific directions for re-timing the cams and CVVT unit. You will have to take it to a Volvo specialty shop or to the dealer. You might try V70R.COM or BRICKBOARD.COM. Someone there might have the specific instructions, but they are very involved and require special tools to hold the camshafts in place while torquing the CVVT unit.

hope this helps.
