2000 Contour dies at low idle

This car has been running fine until today. All of a sudden, it dies when at idle speed even in park. The car runs fine once you get going but will die when stopped unless you keep your foot on the gas a little. It will start right back up over and over so the battery and alternator seems to be fine. Any suggestions?

Cleaned it but no change. It is like someone just backed out the idle screw because the car idles fine if you hold the throttle on just a little but when you let off, it idles so low it dies.

2000gti 2.8, dies after startup unless your foot is on the gas. if you let off it dies at 800rpm after you beat the **** out of it and get it all warmed up its fine..

Idles roughly, then low when stopped or in park, then dies. Decreasing gas mileage. Slow to accelerate

Sometimes that's caused by a vacuum leak near the manifold area.

Sometimes air in the coolant will cause an idle problem. Air will keep the air temp sensor from sending proper info.

I notice that you replaced the water pump,Did the car over heat at any time, If it did end you didn,t stop right away when it first happen, It can do real serious damage to the engine, That will give the syptons you are describeing,If you notice that the car starts to use more oil, That is a deffenet sign there was damage done to the engine,That it done damage to the piston rings, Have you changed the thermostat in it? It tell me allso when you stay your temp gauge is not working that the termostat .Might not be functioning(Properly)
End mess up the temp (Sending) unit. If the car is over heating there will be a loss in power,

CHECK IDLE SPEED SHOULD BE 650 - 850 RPM. IF IDLE TOO LOW AC WILL PUT DRAG SLOW DOWN ENGINE CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL IF IDLE SPEED IS TOO LOW.

get a trouble code from Autozone or other store for free. It sounds like a sensor problem to me. The Idle Position sensor for example.

How does it idle when you first start or idle when hot.
On the top of the air intake tube there is a small screw which should when screwed in speed up the idle and if it dosent work or it idles fine when cold or warm at idle then its your GEARs are binding up and there's not to much you can do about that ........sorry
