SOURCE: 1999 cougar has blown code p1744. will only shift

Your codes indicates a stuck torque converter locked in the open condition.

This is a mechanical problem and only a mechanic with the right tools and parts should try to fix it.

At least you have a chance to keep the cost down by doing it sooner rather than later right?

SOURCE: What do these codes from a 2001 Mercury Sable LS

If you look in your owners manual there is a 15 amp fuse that is blown that controls the air conditioner the lock up tourque converter and th O2 sensors and a canister purge solenoid. I had the same issue starts and idles great but wont pull itself and the star thingey light is telling you theres something wrong in transmission. after a couple hours of diaognosing it turned out to be the canister purge solenoid was causing the fuse to blow thus causing all these other problems. It was 65 dollars at orielys auto parts and tooj 4 10mm screws to replace under back of car underneath trunk!

I have ford expedition 2001with this code p0750 p1747 p0755 p0743

All of these are transmission codes. More diagnostics need to be done to it. Could be a bad solenoid, valve body, or a transmission rebuild.

Bad transmition, the car wonte will not go in drive or reverse, just revs up real high

code p0743 refers to torque converter clutch solenoid-electrical=== causes wiring--clutch solenoid ECM/TCM
code p0750 refers to shift solenoid--A circuit malfunction=== causes wiring --- shift solenoid --ECM/TCM
code p0755 refers to shift solenoid B --circuit malfunction=== causes -- wiring---shift solenoid ---ECM/TCM
First is to check the wiring and connections are in good condition. next is to replace the clutch solenoid for the torque converter and work up from there

Over drive light flashes when driven at 70 mph steady i stop shut the car off and start it again light is off but the transmission shifts hard leave the car over night and its fine codes that came up where...

P0743 is Torque Converter Clutch solenoid circuit failure during self-test.
P0750 is SS1(shift solenoid) solenoid circuit failure.
P0755 is SS2 solenoid circuit failure.

Sounds like you are having an intermitant electrical failure to the tranny. Check the connector at the Tranny and make sure you don't have a loose connector and check it for corrosion.Trace these 3 wires back GN/WH, GN/Y, and GN/O. these go back to a splice then go into one wire GN/Y and then to the PCM relay in the engine compartment fuse panel. Make sure that this harness is not chaffing on metal somewhere or maybe the splice is going bad.You can try and overlay it from the relay to one of the 3 wires at the tranny connector and see if this solves the concern.
