How To Install Repair Replace Parking Brake Release CableHandle ... or replace a broken or worn out parking brake release cable handle.
if you know someone with a lift, get it up in the air and take a good look. it should be immediately obvious which end or which cable has failed. i think you will find there are two cables in the rear which meet one coming from the front at a central threaded rod adjuster. common for them to become rusted and break at pivot points, swivels, backing plates. it is not unknown for an independent muffler shop to put your vehicle up on a lift and let you take a quick look for 10 bucks or so.
just a little rusty is it ???\
theres a product called release all spray it down the parking break cable ends in the parking break housing
also if need to work asap put truck in reverse and slowely work it back and forth rock the truck
or if all else fails remove tires and wach drums with a hammer untill they release then once open pull the cables with vice grips and have friend pull hand break
so you get a back and forth motion untill cable free remem ber there are 2 rear drums on every truck
so do both cables
Under the dash, where the break release handle is, you'll see a lever where the release cable is/was attached to. Either push forward, or pull back this lever and it will release the parking break. BE CAREFUL the foot peddle for the parking break doesn't hit you in the face! Mine broke on the 2nd of this month as well....
