BMW cylinder torque setting all models

According to my service manual as follows.

Cyl head to engine block (torx e12 M10 bolts)

Stage 1 30nm (22 ft – lb)
Stage 2 + 90 degrees
Stage 3 + 90 degrees

Cyl head to lower timing chain cover 10nm (89in – lb)

The tightening sequence is from inside to outside crossover as normal. Loosening sequence is from outside to inside crossover. Remember to set torque wrench at low setting and work gradually up through the whole sequence until you get the desired torque.

Step 2: additional 60 degrees.
Step 3: additional 60 degrees.
Step 4: additional 60 degrees.
Step 5: additional 10 degrees.

Each step involves starting at the center two bolts of the head and alternately tightening in a criss-cross pattern, ending with the bolts on the outer edge of the head.

How to change spark plugs on 2001 chevy lumina


First, I would highly recommend that you also purchase a set of igniton cables and replace these also because you are most likely to have damaged spark plug boots when you remove the boots from the plugs. Trust me...it happens about 95% of the time, and you will be way ahead of the frustration if you are prepaired.

Pull the spark plug boots off of the spark plugs.

NOTE:

Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.

Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. (spray brake cleaner and compressed air works well) Failure to do so could result in severe engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any contamination.

Screw the spark plugs out of the cylinder head.
Check the air gap at the electrode end of the spark plug.

The specification for the plug gap on your vehicle is 1.524mm (0.060 in)

Place a SMALL amount of nickle-based antiseize compound on the spark plug thread, being very careful not to get any on the porcelain portin of the plug. If you do get antiseize on the porcelain part of the plug, it is imperative that you clean it off thouroughly using brake cleaner and a clean rag, otherwise it could cause cylinder misfires.

Screw the spark plug into the cylinder head and torque to specifications.
The spark plug torque specification for your vehicle is 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)

NOTE: Failure to properly torque the plugs can cause severe engine damage. Overtightening the plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head and/or make spark plug removal in the future impossible. This will cause you to have to remove the cylinder head for repair the next time the vehicle needs service on the spark plugs.
Undertightening can cause the plug to leak compression and damage the threads in the cylinder head. This can result in the plug blowing completely out of the head causing severe cylinder head damage.

When replacing the ignition cables, make sure they are routed EXACTLY as they were originally routed from the factory. Make sure that all protective wire loom and fasteners are transfered to the new wires and secured properly. Failure to do so can cause damage to the cables, engine misfires and can cause the spark plug wires to "spike" sensitive sensor circuits that are nearby and cause damage to the sensors or your computer modules. Improperly routed ignition cables have also been known to cause interference in radio and stereo systems.

HINT: The rear plugs on your engine are much easier to get to if you remove the two engine struts that go between the engine and the upper radiator support. You can then use a ratchet strap to pull the engine forward to get more room to work on the rear plugs.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) in sequence.

Use a torque angle meter to rotate each cylinder head bolt 120 degrees in sequence.

Use a torque angle meter to rotate the four center cylinder head bolts an additional 30 degrees in sequence...

    1. Spark plugs removal

    1.1. Front cylinder bank spark plugs removal:
    1.1.1. Disconnect the battery from car terminals.
    1.1.2. Remove the engine plastic cover.
    1.1.3. Disconnect the ignition coils electrical supply cable and all three coils connectors.
    1.1.4. Remove all three ignition coils screws.
    1.1.5. Remove all three ignition coils out from cylinder head.
    1.1.6. Remove all three spark plugs out from cylinder head (straight forward).

    1.2. Back cylinder head bank spark plugs removal:
    1.2.1. Remove the inlet manifold out from cylinder head.
    1.2.2. Disconnect all three ignition coils connectors.
    1.2.3. Remove all three ignition coils screws.
    1.2.4. Remove all three ignition coils out from cylinder head.
    1.2.5. Remove all three spark plugs out from cylinder head (straight forward).

    2. Spark plugs installation

    2.1. Refit all in reverse order.
    2.2. Spark plugs tightening torque = 2,8 +/- 0,3 daN.m
    2.3. Ignition coils tightening torque = 0,8 +/- 0,2 daN.m

    What is the torque specs for a 1998 jeep Cherokee classic straight 6 4.0 liter? I am replacing the head gasket and need to find the lbs of torque. Thank you for any advice, pictures, etc.


    Torque sequence ------------------ front | 12 8 4 1 5 9 13 | of | | engine | 11 7 3 2 6 10 14 | ------------------ Final torque must be reached in 3 equal steps Step 1: torque all bolts (except bolt 11) to 110 Ft/Lbs Step 2: torque bolt 11 to 100 Ft/Lbs Recheck final torque in sequence.

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Drain the cooling system.
    3. Disconnect the hoses at the thermostat housing.
    4. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
    5. Remove the cylinder head cover.
    6. Loosen the rocker arms.
    7. Remove the pushrods.

    The valvetrain components must be replaced in their original positions.
    1. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
    2. Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the spark plugs.
    3. Disconnect the temperature sending unit wire, ignition coil and bracket assembly from the engine.
    4. Remove the accessory drive belt(s).
    5. Unbolt and set aside the power steering pump and bracket. Do not disconnect the hoses.
    6. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold assembly.
    7. If equipped with A/C, perform the following:
      1. Remove the compressor and position it aside with the lines attached.
      2. Remove the compressor bracket bolts from the cylinder head.
      3. Loosen the through bolt at the bottom of the bracket.

    8. Remove the alternator.
    9. Remove the cylinder head bolts, the cylinder head and gasket from the block.

    Bolt No. 14 cannot be removed until the head is moved forward. Pull the bolt out as far as it will go and suspend in place by wrapping with tape.
    1. Discard the gasket. Thoroughly clean the head-to-block mating surface.
    2. Clean and inspect the cylinder head thoroughly. Refer to the engine reconditioning portion outlined later in this section.

    To install:
    1. Coat a new head gasket with suitable sealing compound and place it on the block. Most replacement gaskets will have the word TOP stamped on them.

    Apply sealing compound only to the cylinder head gasket. Do not allow sealing compound to enter the cylinder bore.
