SOURCE: 95 yukon won't shift into first gear.

I don't think its plug wires. When you say it won't shift into 1st? It takes off in 2nd? Does it shift to 3rd and 4th? Or is it a shifter problem? Like it won't go into manual 1st

yes
the housings will be the same
clue here --if the diff center comes into the housing from the front not a problem
if it comes in from the rear ( tin cover removed ) replace the complete housing as you will have to have expertise in resetting the bearing pre-loads for the diff center bearings

How to set the timing on a 1997 gmc 5.7

I would have the ignition gears inspected, gears can wear out and cause this. If bad gears are found I would then inspect the camshaft for worn gears as well since the camshaft spins the ignition.

How does the rear axle come off ? so i can replace the seal and bearing

You will need to pull the rear end cover off, make sure you have a drain pan ready. when you rotaye a rear tire the ring gear will turn, look for a bolt head on the spider gear housing pull out that bolt/pin and then push axle all the way in there will be a c clip on the end of the axle pull that out and remove the axle.Be carefull not to let the spider gears fall out you can put them back but can be a pain.. Hope this helps

How do you remove c clips on rear axle on 2003 yukon 2 wheel drive rear end

You will need to support the vehilce on Jackstands, remover the rear wheels, remove the differential cover. You will see a pin retaining the spider gears in the diff, this pin is held in place with a bolt. Carefully remove this bolt, you may need to spin the carrier to access it, once the bolt is removed (should be an 8mm) you can slide the pin out, and push in on the axles ( you may need to disassemble the brakes to do this) and the c-clips can be removed, and the axles can be pulled from the truck.

I got a 2001 yukon and bout a yr ago the differential started popping and grinding when i would turn the steering but would drive ok on straight aways, so i replaced it with a new one the old one had all...

i am going to go along with your idea... if you are using larger than stock wheels - tires then yes, the load on the gears is much more. I lost a good rear diff myself running larger diameter tires on stock wheels. I would think this is less than uncommon and they must have some heavier ring and pinions to solve this problem, Check at a performance parts store or 4x4 parts and repair shop.
