Your rear blower motor relay in the power distribution box in the fenderwell in the engine compartment.your rear blower relay would be auxiliary ac relay, that will be the relay you are looking for or look in owners manual for fuses and relays locations.

Break Down And Replace The Blower Motor


REMOVAL

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE AIR-BAG SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH OR DEATH.

NOTE: The blower motor is located on the passenger side of the vehicle under the instrument panel. The blower motor can be removed from the vehicle without having to remove the HVAC housing.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the passenger side cowl trim panel.
  3. Position the carpet to access the front upper screw that secures the air inlet housing.
  4. Remove the recirculation door actuator.
  5. Disconnect the blower motor wire lead connector from the blower motor resistor or power module, depending on application.
    1. Remove the one screw (from the top) that secures the lower air inlet housing to the upper air inlet housing.
    2. Remove the four screws (from the bottom) that secure the lower air inlet housing to the upper air inlet housing and remove the lower HVAC housing.
    3. Push the rubber grommet through the opening in the lower air inlet housing.
    4. Route the blower motor wire lead through the opening in the lower air inlet housing and remove the lower air inlet housing from the vehicle.
    5. Position the recirculation-air door as necessary to access and remove the three screws that secure the blower motor to the lower half of the HVAC housing.
    6. Gently flex the recirculation air door downward to gain access to remove the blower motor from the HVAC housing. NOTE: To aid in installation, note the position of the blower motor mounting tabs prior to removal
      1. Remove the blower motor from the HVAC housing by rotating and tilting the blower motor as necessary.
      INSTALLATION

      1. Gently flex the recirculation-air door downward to gain access to install the blower motor into the HVAC housing.
      2. Position the blower motor to the HVAC housing and tilt and rotate the blower motor as necessary to install it into the HVAC housing.
      3. Align the blower motor mounting tabs to the locations noted during removal and install the three screws that secure the blower motor to the HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (17 in. lbs.).
      4. Route the blower motor wire lead through the opening in the lower air inlet housing and seat the rubber grommet.
      5. Position the recirculation door pivot shaft into the lower air inlet housing and install the inlet housing.
      6. Install the four screws (from the bottom) that secure the lower air inlet housing to the upper air inlet housing and the lower HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (17 in. lbs.).
      7. Install the one screw (from the top) that secures the lower air inlet housing to the upper air inlet housing. Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (17 in. lbs.).
      8. Connect the blower motor wire lead connector to the blower motor resistor or power module, depending on application.
      9. Install the recirculation door actuator.
      10. Reposition the carpet.
      11. Install the passenger side cowl trim panel.
      12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
      13. Perform the heater-A/C control calibration procedure.

Check the dash fan control switch. It can be purchased separate from the whole cluster for under twenty dollars. The instrument panel cover comes off gently by hand with the tilt steering in the down position. You have to then unplug the electrical plugs to get it out of the way. The heater ac control panel then comes out by hand far enough to unscrew the heater fan control from the back. Auto Zone may have this part and have the step by step instruction to get the job done if needed. Good luck and hope this helps, if the fuse and relay is good, then it's going to be the switch. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Front vents in 1997 ford expedition are working but non of the rear vents are working. What could this be??


the rear fan/ blower motor may have died before you got the vehicle. if it worked for you at one time, the blower usually makes noise before biting the dust, so you can check fuses and relays, as well.

you don`t say if you checked the fuse for the blower motor. if its good then you may want to check the powers and grounds at the blower motor. if you don`t then you need to back test the circuit until you fine were the lose of voltage occurred.you say you replaced the power relay next to the motor do you mean the resister block. if not then your problem may be the resistor.it sounds like you just threw parts at it hoping and doing any testing.

My 2004 Expedition EB front blower motor quit working for a week, then started to work again but works once in awhile. Is it the motor or the resistor?


First thing I would check is the relay in the fuse panel for the blower motor R06.

See page 252 for the diagram with the location of the relay.

It may be the motor starting to go also. There is no need to worry about the resistor. The resistor would only be bad if the motor only opereated on one speed, normally high. The resistor does just that it causes resistance in the blower circut to reduce the speed from high.

The blower motor would not shut off while the keys are in my hand and truck is not running now front blower motor will not come on.


I would strongly suspect your blower motor relay is bad, your blower relay gets power to close the coil (within the relay ) from a key power source,which should be off when the key is off, it is possible for the relay to stick and provide power to the blower with the key off, and now the defective relay will not allow the power to the blower as designed.replace your blower relay and I am sure you"ll be back in good shape. your blower relay is located in the small relay box under the dash in the center and really kinda a bear cat to get to.thanks for using fixya

Rear blower motor relay


The rear blower motor on that particular vehicle is ground side switched, meaning there is B+ power to it all the time. A quick and easy test you can perform yourself is to determine which of the two wires to the blower motor is powered up. Supply a ground to the other wire and the fan should blow. If this is the case, I will bet the farm that you need to replace the sliding lever control for the rear fan on the MAIN control unit. In order words, you'll need to replace the main climate control switch assembly to fix the problem. It's a pretty common failure on Villagers, if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Your local auto parts store should have or be able to get the HAYNES Manual for the Expedition. I just bought one at Advanced Auto Parts to deal with a different A/C problem with my 2000 Expedition and it has great wiring diagrams & troubleshooting for the A/C among other problems.

The 2000 Expedition actually has "3" blowers. One front, one in the middle under the center console and one aft on the drivers side of the far rear panel. Sounds like it could be the center blower that's causing your problem. I think that blower is on Fuse 7. (Sorry - My Hayes manual is outside in the truck!)
