Question about 1997 Infiniti.5 J30
My car won't accelerate past 2000RPMs, and I've changed the main computer as suggested by an ASE certified mechanic. Can you help me?
On the VG30DE engine (which you have in your car, and which is also found in the 90-96 300ZX, which I own), such a problem is indicative of a failed mass airflow sensor. If the sensor is faulty, the car's computer institutes (in the Z) a 2400 RPM rev limiter to safeguard the engine, as the computer cannot trust the readings from the airflow sensor and is programmed to do this so that an incorrect air/fuel mixture doesn't result, which could damage the engine.
If you know someone else with a J30 of your car's generation, or a 300ZX of model year 90-96, see if you can swap their sensor into your car (I'm not positive that they're interchangeable, but they may be at least for diagnostic purposes).
For future knowledge, it's honestly very rare for the car's computer to go bad - most problems are from other sensors rather than the ECU itself.
