Question about 1995 Mitsubishi Lancer

Open Question

I have 96 ce lancer sedan, today it lost all its gear. Its just revs n does not move. The transmission fluid is full. Would it do this if the torque convertor seized or could it be a problem with the gearbox? Is making a winding sound when changing down to a lower or higher gear but not grabbing.

Most cars you top up the trans fluid through the stem that the dip stick for the transmission goes into.

hope this is helpful.

SOURCE: I need to know what type of transmission fluid

Even though it's a manual trans it probably takes automatic trans fluid. It should tell you in the owners manual, if they only give you the Mitsubishi part number a auto parts store should be able to tell what that number crosses to.

Possible Transmission problem. When gas applied, engine revs but no acceleration. Will accelerate when placed on 2 and L gear. Reverse is fine. Fluid level is full and no visible leaks. Do I need

You might try to get a free scan from Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance autoparts. If their scanners will not show a Code, the more complicated Dealer Scanners may.

Some of the transmissions use shift solenoids. The solenoid for 3rd and 4th gear may be bad. Some use speed sensors which tell the transmission to advance to the higher gears. If you can manually reach 1st and 2nd and reverse, the Torque converter is working and fluid is moving inside the transmission.

I think you can call around to see what other places would charge to put a rebuilt transmission in, if yours can not be fixed.

Transmission fluid

You need to replace your torque converter, your Transmission does not move/turn in any way while in park the only part that does is the torque converter. I would also get a full fluid change when that is done as well.

Pulled this code off my 05 lancer po736 what does it mean

Here is the definition for the code.

P0736 MITSUBISHI Description This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes
Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Will go in overdrive but nothing else

The first step with any automatic transmission problem (if you haven't done it already) is to check the fluid level and quality. Inadequate or contaminated transmission fluid may result in shift failure or damage to the transmission. In particular, if the fluid is burned or has metallic particles in it, the transmission probably needs to be torn down and repaired. A clogged filter screen could also cause the problem, but this is rare unless dirt gets in or there is a worn-out part.
If you have to rev up to high rpms to get the vehicle moving, you may have a torque converter problem.

Check the fluid level. If it is okay, did you change the torque convertor when you changed the transmission? Sounds like one of the two is the problem./
