I have had really good. Luck with the NAPA brand. Otherwise the ford dealer is fairly competitive as well. Make sure you are using motorcraft or auto light spark plugs. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I need a spark plug wiring diagram for a 4.6l Triton V8. 2001

Your shouldn't have any spark plug wires on your vehicle. There should be a coil on top of each spark plug. The firing order is 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 if that helps. I went back a year incase you had a late model 2000 but that 4.6 also has a coil on plug. If you do have spark plug wires, I don't think that's the original engine then.

Where are my spark plugs

On the 4.6L V8 Engine the spark plugs are located below the coil pack (each cylinder has it's own "coil on plug") Remove the harness connector from the coil pack and the bolt holding it in place and very carefully remove the coil pack. Under the coil pack is a boot similar to a plug wire boot. (see photo below)
If you remove the plugs make sure the engine is cool and you use anti-seize on the threads when re-installing the plugs.
I piece of rubber hose that fits snuggly on the plug makes it eaiser to remove and re-install it.
Be carefull not to cross thread or over tighten the plug.
Hope this helps

Ignition Distributor location

There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

Can't keep coils working

Have you replace spark plugs? They may be overworking the coil packs. I would recommend the motorcraft spark plugs.
