cast iron does not dissapate heat as well as aluminun. may have to change several sensors to ones for the cast engine and possibly a radiator. but its gonna run hotter than aluminum in any case

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

Is it necessary to torque the intake bolts when installing the intake manifold?


It is recommended as most intake manifolds are either cast iron or cast aluminum. Uneven torque can result in warping. Too little torque can cause intake leaks. Too much torque can cause cracking or breakage of the cast metal.

it appears that the 2WD drive LT's have the iron block while the 4WD trucks have the aluminum block

Need torque settings for the head bolts on a 1.6 ltr AE82 87 corolla


head bolts for iron cast heads is 65. for aluminum heads, its between 45-50. 1.6 AE82 is iron cast.

yes it is. i checked through the GM database,and it shows that is a 350 engine,and in case your wondering,that is a factory original intake,not an aftermarket..and was cast in the Flint Michigan plant on machine number 2, and on second shift.

Is it a problem if I add "green" coolant to my 2004 5.3liter V8? This coolant is recommended for 2000 or older models.


Yes, These engines are a combination of aluminum castings and cast iron castings. The orange dexcool is designed to control the acidity of the coolant. If you put in green it is going to eat away at the aluminum. It could cause leaks in your head gaskets, intake gaskets, water pumps and promote clogging of important coolant areas in the block.

1966 mustang sparks a flame!


Either the intake bolt is loose or the gasget is broke by that bolt. But most likely the intake is cracked around that area. take bolt out chk. close for a crack around bolt hole and the intake runner. Is intake cast iron or aluminum? Its more likely to crack if its aluminum.
