Rear brake drum is stuck; cannot remove to replace brake shoes. Need some tips to try. 2002 ford zx2 rear brake replacement

Is the emergency brake on? If so release it the brake shoes should release the drum. Second option is to spray some WD40 on the threads next to the drum and replace the wheel putting the lug nuts on finger tight. Lower the vehicle and slowly drive forward for a couple of feet and slam on the brakes, then do the same in reverse. Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel and see if the drum is loose or give the drum a couple of whacks with a rubber hammer.

Rear drum brakes system operation

I believe the bar should have a spring attached to it or relatively close by. when you let go of the brake, the spring pulls the shoes off of the drum and the bar keeps the brakes where they are and does not allow them to be pull back too far away from the drum

Rear drums on breaks 2000 dodge caravan

Make sure you don't have the Emergency Brake on (Hand Brake). This will engage the Brake Shoes to the Drum making it very hard to pull the drum.I am assuming that you know ,have read how to remove the drum.

Brake drum loose but wont come off

Hi,
The representative icons are sometimes confusing on here. It is saying 1994 Suzuki Swift and you are saying 2,000 caravan.
I'm goin with you! ha...
Most vehicles that have drums on the rear have a slot (maybe plugged with a rubber or plastic plug) where when the plug is removed, a "star wheel" adjuster (used to spread the brake shoes) becomes accessible with a tool called a brake spoon. If you rotate the star wheel such that the brake shoe "Spread" is less, the drum should come off. And yes, it is probably the pads catching on a ridge. Getting the drums turned might be in order...
I hope this helps you. Good luck!

Can't get the rear drums off

thats cause you have the parking brake on.
block the front wheels and leave the parking brake off.
if thats not it then they may need some help jumping off of there.
make sure the adjust ments are all the way in
sometimes the shoes wear a grove in the drum and prevent the drum from going over the shoes.if the drum is locked on then its frozen to the hub and will need some beating on.

Can't get rear brake drums off. (1996 Dodge Caravan)

There is an access hole in the back side of the dust cover at the bottom. You can get a screw driver in there, and move the adjuster. If you can't seem to get it, then open the bleeder screw on the wheel cylinder, and move the drum side to side to push the shoes back together.
