Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue
3 times in the last 18 months my Olds would not start. When turning the key on the lights and dashboard indicators go dim, but there is no cranking or any other sound. When stopping the start with the key the lights and dashboard lights come on normally. I have tried to move shifting lever and rollong car in neutral but nothing seems to help. Later - 20 minutes or so - the car starts fine and runs great. The first time this happened was about 1 1/2 years ago, the next was in July, and then just yesyerday. Only 80,000 miles. Any ideas.
Check to see is the connectors to the battery is rusted or surrounded by dry battery acid. I had the same problem until I found out that one of the connectors was rusty. Disconnect connectors and clean then

This may be a problem with the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the different systems- including the starting system and the dash.A low voltage output of the switch will not allow the starter relay to engergize, along with many other odd problems. A way to check this is that when it is acting up, turn the ignition key back and forth very quickly many several times, or tap and the head of the key with a small hammer. These things will normally cause a faulty ign switch to correct itself for the time being.
