PCV valve (positive crankcase ventilation) valve.

The blowby vapors that end up in an engine's crankcase contain moisture as well as combustion byproducts and unburned fuel vapors. The crankcase is sealed to prevent the escape of these gases into the atmosphere, but the vapors must be removed to prevent oil contamination that leads to sludge formation. The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system siphons these vapors from the crankcase and routes them into the intake manifold so they can be reburned in the engine.

Cannot find PCV in my abbreviations list ,if this is what i think it is then its nice motor ,a serena with a diesel engine ,ok to work on once you take all the front seats out and a absolute doddle to fit a new clutch but they do suffer from the camshaft pulley coming loose due to the keyway being cast into the gearwheel ,i always drill a hole and tap and thread it then fit a bolt this stops any further trouble .

Still the same engine although the bodywork is different ,nice little engine though but still not sure what you mean by PCV valve ,the only valve i van think of on these engines is the EGR valve between the inlet and exhaust manifolds is it this one your refering too

barometric sensing valve is the latest catchphrase for this and the real name is engine breather to us old school ,after a long day my mind doesnt always works in full gear and the older one gets then the harder it becomes to remember things ,even confuse diesel engines for petrol ones but that my fault never see many trucks with petrol engines here all diesel .yes the other answer is totally correct you must keep this gauze filter in this pipe to the air intake completely clean or the internal pressure of the engine will build up causing it to leak oil oil everywhere ,years ago they just hung down the side of the engine now they sensors and all manner or things connecting them to the computer ,but old time they were just a pipe with a gauze filter inside --now where did i leave my false teeth ??

Check the spark plugs for oil contamination. The PCV valve will pick up oil and send it into the intake manifold then fouling the plugs

WOULD THE PCV VALVE ON THE 1997 NISSAN 4X4 BEING BAD KEEP IT FROM RUNNING?

No, I suggest you try to scan your computer and use the codes to diagnose the problem. You need fuel, spark and air for the engine to function. The computer manages the ratios (based on sensor inputs) for optimum performance.

Just rebuilt engine 1993 2.4 hyd rockers backfiring all timing is dead on was wondering if cat is stopped up would this affect it engine was full of water due to timing chain cutting thru timing cover

Double check all your vacuum lines and make sure none have come loose or were damaged when the engine was rebuilt. Check any egr, pcv, mass sensors and make sure they are clean etc...Not as familiar with Nissan trucks but some Nissan cars were equipped with an anti-backfire valve.

The PCV valve is located in the valve cover on the passenger side of the vehicle. The valve is closer to the firewall than it is to the front of the engine. It has a hose attached to it and threads into the valve cover.

First turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Then use some pliers to carefully remove the plastic retaining clips that hold the splash guard in place in the right front wheel-well. You should now be able to see the oil filter (incidentally this is how you access the oil filter). Remove the oil filter. You should now be able to see the PCV valve and its hose which connects to the intake manifold. Use pliers and loosen/slide the retaining clip up the hose a couple of inches (this will alow the PCV valve to rotate as you unscrew it). Use a "stubby" open wrench to unscrew the PCV valve. With the PCV valve removed from the crankcase it is now easier to remove it from the hose. Reverse the process with a new PVC valve and you are finished. Appoximate time 30- 45 minutes.
