SOURCE: 2008 Dodge Durango Transmission Problem

I would take it to a transmission shop and ask them to diagnose the problem but do NOT repair it yet. If the diagnostic shows something wrong, take the test results to the dealer and see if it is covered under warranty. If it is, they should reimburse you for the diagnostic as well as repair it under warranty.

Where does the transmission fluid get put in.

find the dipstick ( it is usually on the passengerside by the firewall) check to see how much you have to put in then take a funnel and place it in the dipstick tube and put the transmission fluid in until it hits the full line

Where is the transmission coolent located on a 2001 dodge durango

The transmission fluid serves to cool as well as lubricate the trans. Adding fluid is accomplished through the dipstick filler neck with a funnel.

Your 2001 Durango trans uses a fluid called ATF+4. You can use either the OEM product from a dealer, or you can also use Valvoline brand ATF+4 which is now approved by Dodge.

Your trans should be serviced via a drain/refill method with new filter installation at least every 50k miles. If you tow often and large loads you will want to drop that to 30-35k.

Flushing the trans as many shops will try to sell you is not recommended, and has resulted in large repair bills in short order for some folks.

My 99 durango makes a grinding sound when put in gear and is leaking fluid - what could this be??

your transmission doesn't have the proper amount of fluid so the gears are probably grinding against bare metal

Transmission fluid all leaked out of 2002 dodge grand caravan, are they easy to replace?

Kelli,

replacing the transmission fluid is easy, but you really need to find out why and from where the old fluid leaked. Under the hood in the engine compartment you will find a dipstick (gauge to check the fluid level) which is essentially the same as the oil dipstick in its performance, but different in location. It should be clearly marked as such.

Pull dipstick out and insert funnel into the opening (filler tube) and add 4 quarts of ATF Plus 3 Type 7176. Start the engine and allow it to idle for approx. 2 minutes

Apply the parking brake and push down on the brake pedal while idling and run the gear selector through the gears, stopping at Park.

Check the dipstick and add fluid so that the level is 1/8 inch below the "ADD" indication on the dipstick if necessary. Allow the van to run for around another 10-15 minutes to achieve normal operating temperatures.

Check the fluid level again to make sure it reached the "Hot" indicator level on the dipstick, and add more fluid if needed and then replace the dipstick in the filler tube.

I would definitely find out why you have leaked all of your transmission fluid before refilling it.

I hope this helps and good luck!b989e6d.png

Ware is the hole for the tranny fluid in a 2002 durango

Usually you just add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube, given its a automatic. Have the vehicle warmed up to operating tempature and check the trans fluid. Remove the trans dipstick and place a small funnel in the dipstick tubes opening. Add the neccessary amount of fluid and recheck. Be aware though that between adding fluid and checking the fluids, you need to allow enough time for the trans fluid to drain all the way down the dipstick tube or you will get a inaccurate reading.
