SOURCE: caprice boggs
I had similar problems with my 91 caprice. As a last ditch effort I changed the oxygen sensor. That fixed it instantly. The old sensor did not throw a code... GO FIGURE!! And at $20, it's a fix that won't break the bank. Just be warned, my old O2 sensor was cross threaded into the exhaust manifold :(

to instal the distributor you need to have number one cylinder on top dead center . on compression stroke. Then when you put the distributor in. and you need the rotor pointing at number one spark plug wire.. Drop it in and it will turn it might turn too much when you drop it so pull it back up and drop it in back a notch till it drops in pointing at number one spark plug wire on the distributo cap.. .. sometimes they wont drop in all the way so you have to hold down on it till someone turns the engine over to make it drop on down about 1/2 inch more. I guess first thing you should do is follow number one spark plug wire to the distributor and mark it down below the cap on the metal part of the distributor.. number one cylinder on a chevrolet is if your standing in front of the car with the hood open its the first one on your right. say holler if you have more... If your radiator is hot You may have a stopped up heater unit. You can try flushing the water sys. with half white vinegar ,half water. Some times that helps. If not you may have to replace the heater unit. That is a job.
