first of all, thank to replying to my post.ok, let me make myself clear:I accidentally disconected the ignition switch wire, the one at the steering column, and ever since then the factory theft system got activated, and now I'm not able to start the car,I got some information about it in google, and I got some suggestions, one is to put the key in the on position for 10 minutes,3 times until the theft light disappear, but didn't have any results.

thanks to all for your comments, I must tell you that I already fix the problem, it cost me $60.00 to fix it,I took the car to a professional locksmith, and he relearn the code with a expensive computer or scanner that they have, the dealer wanted to charge me $675.00 for that, they said it needed a new ignition lock and with the installation and the programming, it was gonna come out to that amount.

You have to clear the theft system code that was set by disconnecting the wire first , it may not do its "relearn" until you do . You will need a service center with a "tech 2" scanner

1998 chevy cavalier where is the BCM (body control module) located?

Kimberley, 1998 cavalier, BCM is located at the lower left side kick/trim panel, you can have it checked and reprogrammed by a good Tech. as long as they have access to the programming software. Remember the BCM has to be reprogrammed if you change it.
Did you try the security relearn procedure, see 2nd and 3rd link for instructions on relearn procedure. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

When you say it won't start, do you mean it cranks but won't fire, or it just won't crank? If it just won't crank, you could be having an issue with the starter relay. The often become intermittent before failure. Many owners do not know there is a starter relay because it was added as a recall item i order to protect the iginition switch from burnout. The starter relay is located in the very front of the engine compartment, just to the left of the battery, on the back side of the radiator crossmember.

My 99 2.2 SOH cavalier....she gets spark and fire but won"t start. Even though this is a no-no, won"t start with ether either, gets compression, plenty< crank sensor puts out 8 volts......no chip in...

I am leaning to timing belt problem if the belt broke and the valve is closed on that cly you would have compression there. If the ecm was the cause you would not have spark.
