SOURCE: Power Steering Pump Leaks

call a Ford dealership and give them the VIN of your car and they will let you know if there is a recall on it. the only thing you do to replace it is you take the belt off and remove the line from the pump and take it off but once you put the new pump on and fill with powersteering fluid turn the wheel back and forth left to right to get the air out of the system

SOURCE: how to replace power steering pump on 2002 ford

Take a picture of it before you take it apart so you know where everything goes.
1.Take belt off
2. Unbolt any bracket that the power steering pump is bolted too.( only if you have to unbolt a bracket)
3. Disconnect lines from steering pump
4. After replacing power steering pump fill with Auto. trans fluid.
5. After filling start car and turn wheel left and right a few times this will get the air out of the system and recheck fluid level.

SOURCE: 2003 Ford Escape leaking red fluid

Sounds like you need a new power steering hose. To verify this, I would dry up any wet areas on the hose and pump with a towel, get a flashlight and start the vehicle and try to determine the exact site of the leak which is usually at the ends of the hoses. Good luck!

I would suggest pressure testing the power steering pump. It has been my experience the p/s pump will cause this problem. Also check to see if there is a filter in the reservoir, and it is not stopped up.

When it gets really cold outside my 2003 Ford Escape has whining from my power steering but if it warms up outside it no longer does this what could the problem be? If the night time temp doesn't drop...

When cold the thickness (viscosity) of the power steering fluid is thicker and thins out as it heats up. You can try flushing the fluid. If that doesnt work the pump will have to be replaced.

Power steering fluid for a ford escape 2003 2.0

AIR IN THE PUMP CAN CAUSE NOISE AND FRICTION DURING TURNING. AN OPTION IS TO ASK YOUR MECHANIC TO BLEED THE POWER STEERING IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE AIR. THIS WILL DEFINITELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS FUNCTIONING OPTIMALLY

I have a 2003 Ford Escape that is leaking power steering fluid. I replaced the power steering pump and hoses but it is still leaking. It only leaks when the Escape is turned off.

It might be the rack and pinion kit (seals)

I had this problem 2 months ago... replaced the powersteering pump 3 times until I convinced the mechanics to look at the rack and pinion. there they found the leak, especially when I turned the wheel.. They first kept telling me there was air in the lines and it would go away. but that never happened.
