Question about 1992 Ford Taurus
I bought a 92 Ford Taurus 3.8 recently. Only had 89,000km so it was a steal.
However the dashboard lights have never worked. I had a backyard mechanic pull the dashboard apart and replace the bulbs. But that didn't fix the problem. Someone said that it may be the dimmer switch. True?
Second problem - for a while the cruise control worked, now it doesn't.
Thirdly - power locks and drivers power seat died at the same time. Manual says that the locks, seat and windows all run off the same fuse. Windows all work fine. Fuse? Relay Switch? Short?
I need some sort of direction so that I can get the right guy to do the right job in the least amount of time/expense. I would also like to see what I can eliminate as the source first.
1998 Mercury Sable LS.
Panel Dim and Auto Lamp work intermittently but I am able to use the light switch to turn on the panel and head lights
. Open door warning light illuminates intermittently even though all doors and tailgate are firmly secured..

1. there should be a 5A fuse for the dashoard lights in the fuse panel. Yes it may be cause by the dimmer switch.
2. Cruise control stop working. this may seem funny to you but make sur all your rear brake lights work. The way Ford cruise control system works, it uses resistance to engage the cruise, with a burnt brake light, the resistance changes and the module will not recognise the input.
3. try replacing the relay box on top of the radiator.
Hope this helps you out
