According with the Owners Manual, there should be a key code that you can take to the dealer to get a replacement.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I got a 2001 Saturn L200 4 CYL replacing key cylinder have old but not have old key cylinder need code for new key cylinder

It's not the cylinder that is coded, it's the key. If you do not have the old key, you will have to have the new key coded to the car's security system by a dealer, or someone who has the proper tool to do so.

Key coding

Some locksmiths have kept up with technology,so you probably aren't stuck with the dealer to code a new key,but you will have to look around for a locksmith that can do it.

Keys are available outwith the Mitsubishi dealer. Keys supplied will have a transponder chip in them but this will need to be coded into the car, which, if the key supplier cannot code, will then need to go to a Mitsubishi dealer. Probably easier going direct to the dealer

Where can I get a replacement key fob?

or

  • Call the dealership and ask what sort of key you need. Ask them how long it will take and how much it will cost to replace your key. A couple of hours should be expected, as each coded key still needs to be cut like a standard key. Generally, coded keys cost a little over $100.
  • 2 Call an automotive locksmith if you are unsatisfied with either the price or the time alloted to replace your key through the dealership. Many will come to your car and check your ignition as well as deliver your key in a timely fasion. Automotive locksmiths are best if getting to the dealership is a major inconvenience and may be much cheaper than towing a car with an ignition that needs to be repaired.
  • 3 Order your key. An automotive locksmith may be able to deliver it to you directly on site and will check to see if it is working and service your ignition as well. If you use a dealership, be sure to try the new keys in your Chrysler and make sure that they work. If not, the dealership may have coded the key incorrectly.

Keys do not open doors just the keyless remote

Sounds like someone replaced the ignition. The vibe uses one key for all locks and if you replace just one the key wont work. you might see if the dealer can get a factory replacement from the factory key code. you will need to get a new key with the factory code as well but this should solve the problem.

    Tundra replacement locks

A locksmith can rekey the locks to accept a different key. This would be much cheaper then buying and replacing all the cylinders.
You trucks ignition lock may have whats called an imobilizer Its set to your present key and if you change the key code you would need to buy imoblizer keys from the dealer and have them programed. Little pricey. Perhaps you could just change the codes on the doors and leave the ign key alone. Also you may want to change your wireless entry fobs to new ones.

    Security problem

Can you please tell me what part was replaced on you ignition system.
If you have changed the ECU or the IGN key switch they need to be fitted in matched pairs as the key switch is match coded to the ECU
Unless you purchase a brand new one that will be blank but must be coded by the dealer or someone with the correct software.

Inside the key is a small chip that tells the ECU it is a match & lets the car start.
The mechanics of most key switchs can be replaced but you must put the chip from your old key into the newly fitted key.
Some cars like Mercedes have the key switch coded & the key so they talk to each other & they must also be coded to the ECU as well.
    Nothings ever simple is it.
