Question about 1995 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

95 Dodge Stratus engine turns off while driving

While driving my 95 dodge stratus, as I begin to slow down or come to a stop, or even while just sitting, the engine will just shut off on me, causing me to turn it back on again. All the electrical components work fine when this happens, it's just the engine. Before this occurs, I'll see my RPM meter fly back and forth from 0 to 2 rapidly and then just turn off.

My brother said it could be a problem with the vacuum inside of it, and many other people have given me other reasons.

What do you say?

Mine will run fine then check engine light comes on and sometimes abruptly stop running. Will restart but eventually it will do it all again. Also, sometimes while driving down the highway it will **** for a fraction of a second like a hard shift in the transmission.Help!

I have the same car and had a very similair problem. My Crank Sensor had to be replaced. Try suggesting that to your mechanic, the part was only 65 dollars from AutoZone.

When driving my daughters 2004 Dodge stratus, 4 cyl it will start choking and surging when you begin to stop, once you put it in park and press gas peddle it will stop and drives good until you stop

check for a faulty /loose vacuum hose to the brake booster or a faulty brake booster diaphragm. From you description it is happening when your foot is on the brake and slowing down and there is a vacuum leak that is upsetting the mixture for the engine.

2004 dodge stratus oil light started coming on when I slowed down or cam to a stop and then would turn off when I started driving again. Now it stays on al the time

You need to have that chk'd out. Even low oil pressure can damage the engine let alone no oil pressure. Ck your oil level. It is a serious issue to have that light on. Good Luck, _Ned_

My 04 dodge stratus oil light comes on when i slow down or come to a stop, but turns off as i go

Sounds like your oil level is too low.
When you slow down or stop, your oil levels out and is too low for the gauge to read.
When you speed up, your oil sloshes and splashes the sensor, thus making it appear that it is circulating properly, when it actually isn't.

Is your temperature high, too?

Engine and front end vibrates on right turns on 2003 stratus

that is likely one of the constant velocity joints or the rubber boot on it. quick test is to turn slowly to the right in an empty parking lot and listen for a clicking sound. repeat in a slow left hand turn.
