Question about 1986 Honda Civic

'86 honda civic Si fuel issue (sputtering)

I have an '86 honda civic Si, when i drive the car short or long distances it seems to happen, anything over 5 min. the car will be driving just fine, everything works, and then bam, loss of power very much like when a car runs out of gas. i come from a long line of junk cars so i can deal with most issues and quarks a car my dish out. i need the car to run well for the GF and she drives long distances. its a great car aside form this new issue. could it be the fuel filter? the alternator not giving anough energy under load? i did notice i let the car sit for a couple days and charged the battery and drove it without incident. i took a meter to the posts and got 14.4v/dc, but that was after a fresh charge. please help!

Intake issue

Check the fuel pressure. The pump may be going out. If pressure is ok then spray (lightly) starting fluid around the intake. If the car revs then you have an intake leak, that would cause it to run poorly.
