I should say where on the car is it located? Is it a easy fix? How much is the item? The car is a 3.0 single cam v-6.

  • The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  • There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
  • The EGR valve is faulty
  • The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
It is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
  • Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
  • Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
  • Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
  • Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
  • Replace the EGR valve
The EGR valve is located in the engine compartment. Its should look this

Code p0403

EGR is the exhaust gas recirculating valve . It's part of the emission system designed to lower emission of nitrates of oxygen. The vehicles PCM is sensing a problem with the flow or lack of flow thru the EGR valve. The EGR system has several components including the egr valve, erg solenoid, possible EGR temperature sensor and/or a DPFE ( differential pressure feedback sensor) and vacuum hoses. They are located on or near the intake manifold and connects to the exhaust manifold system also.

Check engine light on, Dtc shows erg insufficient flow, changed erg control solenoid and dpfe unit

Hello, since I do not know if you cleared the computer on your vehicle, the first thing I will remind you of is to clear the computer after making repairs. The Errors can continue to show for 25-35 Startups after the problem is fixed. Both Autozone and Oreillys will scan and clear your computer for free.

Next, usually on older 4.6 V-8s' but on some other models the EGR passages below the Airhorn would clog with carbon. All you need to do is remove 8 bolts and clean the groove under the Airhorn gasket and then replace the gasket. Many, many times it is not necessary to replace any other parts.

What happens is the Diagnostics are wrong because they do not measure EGR flow at the source. Flow is measured after the EGR Valve, and after all of the Solenoids. Obviously all the parts down the line can't work if there is no flow from the manifold to go through them. Quite a money maker for the Auto guys.

I hope you find my solutions very helpful in solving your problem.

Engine code p0401 in 2004 ford explorer 4.0 motor insuficient gas flow detected

p0401 is egr flow insufficiant. check or remove and clean egr and port. and also check the vacuum lines to egr. Insufficient EGR flow frequently is caused by clogged EGR passageways.

Low pressure? Insufficient egr flow? How about plugged ports in the intake. What engine? Do you have a vacuum pump?

Need a wiring diagram for a 1998 toyota camry for the vsv. replaced the transducer and vsv still getting code p0401 erg flow insufficient. any suggestion?

Start car with egr disconected. You should hear a sucking noise from said hole. If not you must clear this hole and there is your problem. If it is open then all thayt is left is the egr valve itself. hth
