Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva
The warning sign "Coolant level low" has come on. The coolant level is fine, the temperature gauge is normal, as is the oil level. However, just yesterday afternoon, as I was driving home - and wanted some heat - I turned on the heater and it only blew cold air, along with an odd smell, rather like hot water or steam. I pulled over - nothing was steaming, and all gauges were, again, normal. I still can't get any heat. I looked in the Owner's Manual for troubleshooting the heating system, but couldn't find anything to help. Can you please assist?
Sounds like the heater core is leaking, at least the smell, the other is either the cooling system has air trapped in it from a head gasket leak, or the sensor that turns on the light is defective, is the coolant clean? It will be one of 3 colors, red, green or yellow, rusty looking is very bad.
