Engine bogs down between 35 and 45 spongy accelerator

2001 forester with 100k new battery new plugs and wires bogs down in stop and go traffic between 35 and 45 mph. Hit the accelerator and nothing happen unless you push it to the floor and then it races up to speed then falls back?

I would replace the fuel filter, clean the mass air flow sensor and then scan the computer for codes. You may have a bad throttle position sensor.

Start with a timing check, at higher miles the timing chain plastic guides wear and cause multiple misfire and driveability concerns...of course check the obvious, spark plugs, plug wires,c.o.p,fuel pressure..all basics. .ck engine light on?

When it is moist out the engine bogs down and studers.


tighten the spark plugs to factory torque...
Park it in the dark and start it up.
spray some glass cleaner MIST over the engine compartment to find the sparks.... and replace that part.

You have coil over spark plug ignition and one of your coils is bad.You need to find the bad coil and replace it.

2001 Hyundai Sonata Bogs down


My Son's 01 Sonata displayed the exact same systems and it was his catalytic converter. The metallic sounds were the converter guts disintegrating.
