Overdrive light won't come on when I'm not in overdrive

I suspect that the light is supposed to be on when you are in OD and off when you are not.

Is over drive supposed to be used in the city or only high way

When in Overdrive the output shaft of the transmission will turn faster than the engine rpm. So overdrive is only useful when on the highway. This will conserve fuel. The option to turn overdrive off on the highway would be useful in mountain driving or pulling a trailer.

When driving is the overdrive light suppose to be on ?

The over drive light should be on at all times when the overdrive button is pressed in. Press the overdrive button to the off position and the light should go off.

1996 explorer what gear do u drive in and?do u supposed 2 cut the overdrive off when?just regularly driving

OVERDRIVE is fine in most driving. if you tow a trailler or pulling long hills take out of overdrive. otherwise the vehicle will handle when to shift.

When am I supposed to engage the overdrive. I have it on all the time, will that damage the auto.

leave the overdrive on all the time.will not damage anything
unless towing a trailer or similar, or driving in steep hilly and winding roads that cause the overdrive to change in and out

How do I know if my car has overdrive?

Sunfires and cavaliers always reved a bit higher because of the way they are built but it is an AEOD transmission (Automatic Electronic OverDrive). Since I dont know what rpm and how fast you are going it is hard to tell if there is a probleme or not. I would compare with another similar car and decide what to do.

At what speed does the car need to be put into overdrive? what size fuel tank is in the 1992 park avenue?

Your car probably won't go into overdrive below 35 or 40mph.I have a 1993 and I only put it in third gear only when I want it to stay out of overdrive,I always put the shifter in 4Th or overdrive. If your trans jumps hard between overdrive and 3rd gear or is always searching for a gear to be in you should be concerned and have it serviced.18 gallon tank.

Overdrive

the overdrive is to help get better fuel milage and performace at speeds above 50 mph, it won't hurt at all leaving it on all the time.
