I purchased and downloaded a shop manual for the vehicle and found that the ECU was located under the left, or driver's side of the dashboard. Thank you Ginko for suggesting the purchase of that item.

2000 dodge status just started flooding & fouling pluggs.code says coolant sensor but reads fine on dash, all levels look gud.what might cause this ?

Bad coolant temperature sensor. Your engine has two, one for the gauge and one for the ECU. If the ECU thinks the engine is cold it enters phase lock loop, or what would be choke on a carburator.

My 1997 dodge dakota v6 3.9 auto 4x4 wont start replaced the ecu computer it will crank but wont start

Check for spark, and for fuel at the manifold. The ECU will not prevent you from cranking, but it does control fuel and spark.

Just bought a 1993 Dodge Stealth. It started the first day and sounded and looked good. The next day it wouldn't start and we tried jumping it, but it wouldn't start with a jump. We checked the fluids and...

My money says it is the ECU (engine control unit) early 90's Mitsubishi's are known for poor capacitors in their ECUs. If the car is not starting, if it has spark but no fuel my first money is that of the ECU. If it has fuel but no spark I expect something within the electronics.

Is this engine the SOHC or DOHC.

If you need to replace the ECU there is a MD number you need to use to match the proper unit. The ECU is located under the stereo, remove the two interior flaps (carpet strips) that cover the shifter are. The ECU has 3 large electical plugs, remove these and unbolt the (3) 10MM bolts to get the ECU out

I have owned and replace three Mitsubishi veichles with bad ECU, one of which is my son's 93 Dodge Stealth with 3.0 SOHC.

Please let me know if this had assisted you.

Hello again.
I have read your further comments. very interesting to say the least.

Now for the bad part. if the shop cannot obtain any fault codes from the computer / ECU unit then there is a major problem. I would surmise, that if there are no readings then there is no power to the ECU unit. if the shop checks out the power feed to the ECU then that will eliminate other possible problems. If they cannot get a power reading to the ECU, then the fault lies between the power boxes under the hood and the ECU. The ECU obtains all the necessary information from various sensors etc on the vehicle. It takes this information and converts it within the ECU, and in turn transmits pre-set values / signals to the various electrical / electronic items which all work together to start and run the vehicle.

I cannot price anECU for you, most people that work on their preferred brand buy a unit from a salvage yard and just substitute the vehicle unit. If the vehicle starts and read=outs can be obtained, then the problem is solved. Thats the problem with all the electronic stuff on vehicles. It's great when operating, but when it goes wrong it can be a very time consuming task to correctly identify the problem.

I sincerely hope that yours turns out well without horrendous expense being incurred.

1998 dodge caravan shutdown while driving flashing lights on dash .car wont start

When activate the shutdown sistem in Dodge, the power line of ECU is of, but the power line is generated from the ECU to all the control sistem, including the Transmition control module. That is the reason of the car don't start. The line of 12 volts of the injectors, and ignition coil is in the of moment, and when the temperature of the board of the ECU is down, it start again. Here in Chile, I repair the ECU, but in other countrys, you can buy an other new.
Good Luck.

Why wont my 91 dodge stealth have fire

Given the history of this product (early 1990 Mitsubishi products) I expect it is the engine ECU, located behind the radio. You'll need to remove the two pieces of carpet trim/panel off of the tunnel, pop off the plastic caps (one on each side) and remove the phillips head screw. The trim now loose will in-hook from a point near the fire-wall and then back by the shifter. Looking behind the dash in the middle the ECU will sit vertically and the (3) yellow electrical plugs within it, unplug these and remove the three bolts/screws holding it in place (if my memeory serves they are No. 10 metric) Note the MD number on the ECU this is important as you must keep this common with the replacement. The death of these ECUs are the (3) capaciors within them. If you like you can open up the ECU and look for these; under them you might notice a thick grease like substance, this is the failure of a leaking capacitor. It is possible for you to replace these capacitors (must be done with care) If you purchase a rebuilt unit the
new capacitors are of better quality and less prone to leaking.

The attached link should assist.

I hope this may have assisted you,

2006 dodge charger transponder key stopped working. car wont start anymore. i can open and lock the doors fine but just cant get the car to start

This means that the programming of the Transponder Key has been corrupted or the Programming data of the Key in ECU ( Electric Control Unit ) has been lost or not responding. You now have to get a new Transponder Key. You can get it on E-bay for $30. After you receive it, reprogram the car to the New Transponder Key to the ECU ( the process in usually given in the instruction manual or in the Service Manual ). Then the car will start perfectly.
