P0420 is a cat code. Sometimes, you can replace the upstream & downstream air/fuel & O2 sensors, run some good fuel injection cleaner thru it, and that might fix the problem. If not, you may need to replace the cat. Note that the cat is covered under warranty for 8 yrs/80,000 miles. Toyota will replace it if it has gone bad, for free.

usually when this occurs (engine light) the ecm has detected some type of failure with one or components of the engine. ur gonna need to have a diagnostic scan done to determine the source. If the vehicle is OBD certified autozone part stores will do it for free. to be sure that its not just a minor "hickup" u can reset yous car's ecm urself by disconnecting the positive battery for 1 minute. if the engine light returns then i would have a diagnostic scan done. if you are refuring to the yellow check engine light. thats an emmision control light, it's not related to
oil or water capacity. it has only to do with emmision control devices. if the light is on steady. bring it to your mechanic and have him or her pull codes from your on board computer as soon as possible. if the light is flashing bring it to them now. stop driving the car or damage will be done to your cars converter.
good luck chris
