Question about 2000 Mazda MPV

1 Answer

The engine on my 2000 MPV cuts out and dies when I press the accelerator. After it sits for an hour or so, I can travel for 20 min. or so before the problem starts again. HELP!

I never had this problem before. I left home and down the road I realized I forgot something, so I backed up about 1/8 mile quite rapidly, backed into the yard and stopped. The engine quit. I restarted the van and left again. When I stopped at the end of the road, the van started cutting out but I kept it running by "fluttering" the gas pedal. When I would press the pedal it seemed like it wasn't getting any gas. Eventually, it cleared and ran fine. I traveled for 40 minutes before the van quit. I could not restart the van. After a few hours the van started and ran fine for another 20 minutes then started cutting out again and quit. I had to be towed home. It starts now but I am afraid to go anywhere. Please help me!

If its been a while change the fuel filter and then have the fuel pressure and volume checked.these symptoms are very common for a fuel pump problem.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. I found out that the fuel filter is in the fuel tank, so I made an appointment to have it looked at. Hopefully, it's just the filter! Thank you again!"

I haven't changed the fuel filter since I purchased it a few years ago. I don't know if it was ever done. Where is the fuel filter located?

  • robert wales Feb 08, 2012

its been awhile since i`ve done one of these but i think its near the fuel tank.find the fuel lines then follow the larger of the lines (about 3/8")in diameter this is the line the fuel filter will be in.its about 3.5" long and 2-2.5" in diameter.you will need need the right size tools to replace it

SOURCE: Mazda MPV 1995 Engine over heats

you will have to fill the cooling system and get all the air out of the system at the same time you can see if you notice a leak anywhere(dripping of liquid)and if so trace were the fluid is leaking out of.once the cooling system is full pressure test the system and see if you see a leak and find were its leaking.once you find whats leaking then you will know what you need to fix it.

Engine cuts out and does not accelerates

you will have both a throttle position sensor and a peddle position sensor both fitted to your throttle ,the cars ECU must pick up both sensors so it is not doing so you may need to change the throttle body.as you can not just change the sensors on there own.

1992 Mazda mpv . Won't hold charge . Engine won't

The first thing to do is have the battery tested, just because you charged it doesn't mean it will stay charged if the cells are sulfated up or shorted.

My 2000 MPV gets stuck in park. The parking gear will not light up to indicate the van is in park. Once the van is running for about 20 mins or more the parking gear light will come on and I am able to...

it sounds like a shift lock solinoid ....this prevents the car from being shifted out of park when ur foot is not on the brake....u will have to bring this to a repair shop since the faulty part is located inside the paneling where ur shifter handle is

My MAzda 2003 MPV ES.The evap and EGR still incomplete, need reset on the monitor- drive test; everything else passed the smog. no codes show on scanner. FEw months ago, I chage the battery, but I was told...

Here is the procedure for allowing system to run each of the separate mode tests.
EGR : Start engine and warm up completely. Make sure all electrical loads are off (A/C headlights, blower fan, and rear window defroster) Accelerate to between 49-57 mph and hold a very steady speed for 1 minute. Decelerate to a stop and turn off engine.
EVAP : Ensure Baro pressure is 21.3 inHg or higher, Intake air temp is 41-95 'F, Fuel tank level is between 25-75%, Battery voltage is 10.9-14.6 volts. Start engine and idle for more than 10 seconds then turn key to off. Leave vehicle to sit for 5 hours or more. Start engine and race to 3500 rpm to warm up completely the idle for more than 15 minutes. Accelerate and then drive vehicle at very steady speed between 40-50 mph for more than 5 minutes. Stop vehicle and turn key to off. Leave vehicle undisturbed for 20 minutes or more.
When I say steady speed in the above, try to keep dead on to a set speed to help ensure the test is run. Especially for the EGR as this is when the test will be performed and if speed/rpm is not very steady then test will not be performed. The Evap test will be ran during that final 20 minute or more sitting period (or should be anyway).
