Well it is a black key, and it started the first few times then shut itself off, sounded great just shut off then after like the third time it would even turn over I had a half a tank of gas and had been driving it earlier that day.... Just recently had the oil changed and the checked all my fluids, tried to do the reprogramming for the sentry key that was in the manual and it's like it's not reading the key.... Oh and FYI the only reason I think it's the anti theft system is because the red light will flash when the key is in the on position.

SOURCE: how do i override/reset anti theft system?

this does not sound like an antitheft problem. the SKIS systems in the jeeps will allow the truck to start, but it will turn off again after 5 seconds.

FYI if your jeep key is gray, it has the SKIS system. if it is a black key, it does not.

have you already done diagnostics for a no start? if you are lacking fuel or spark, you need to look elsewhere for the problem if it does not start at all. good luck!

Won't start, battery good, starter good, swapped relays and still won't start

Any issues with the ignition switch itself? They are mostly made of plastic pieces. With the exception of the actual cylinder. Also depending on how long you had the battery issue,it may have damaged the alternator. They tend to go hand in hand, unless caught early enough. The alternator gets overworked due to the weak battery.

2007 jeep compass, started smoking under the hood like something shorted out, now the starter will not respond. any ideas?

It appears that the starter has staed engaged after the engine started. There is an override clutch on the starter pinion but it is only good for a short time. It seizes up and the starter starts spinning and trying to generate power. In the end it burns out. Pull the starter and have it check out.

I have a 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport. There's a slow drain on the battery, no one can seem to fix the problem. I feel it started with getting my 60,000 mile check. The only fix the dealer can come up...

ok you can start by pulling the fuses out one by one and use a multi meter to see how much each one is drawing power it doesn't take allot in my jeep i found the in side console computer was not turning off and was draining my battery dead so i had to run a jumper from ware i pulled that fuse
to a fuse that turns off with the key and that ended the drain on the battery and if you pull them out when its dark you will see a spark with the key is off when you plug the fuse back in and see what
that fuse is.

hope this helps you
good luck

Take it to the Jeep dealer . It's still under warranty. Won't cost you a penny. Good luck.
