I have read about, and experienced, a problem w/alt's on '99 Mon Sports where owners have replaced multiple alternators. Many times the culprit, oddly enough, is a leaking rear camshaft seal that weeps oil. This oil subsequently gets blown around the engine compartment by the radiator fan or general air movemants while driving. Because of this, a film of oil can cover/coat the alternator (specifically the underside, which often goes un-noticed), causing its failure. It is my opinion (just an opinion) that this could be the cause of some of the passenrer side fires that I have read about occuring. The seal is only about a $15 Dollar part, but to replace it is several hundred in labor due to it's location. Have you ever noticed a faint, or sometimes even a strong smell of burning oil when you park your Monty? If so check to see if indeed you have an oily residue on your alternator. The smell of burning oil tipped me off to this issue. Upon investigating the smell, which turned out to be a small amount getting blown on to the exhaust, that I found my alternators underside to be coated with oil. I do plan on replacing the seal soon, but until I can find the time, every month or so, I use an engine degreaser and clean my motor thouroughly paying special attention to the underside of the alternator. Hope this helps you. Dave B. in PA

You need to test your alternator for too much voltage. Any digital volt meter that reads DC should work. With the volt meter reading across the battery, run the engine up to about 2000 RPM and check the voltage; it should be about 14.5 volts and never above 15 volts. If the voltage is high, you can cook your battery as well as having your lights burn out quickly.

My car stalls out sometimes while stopped, stopped in the turn position, and now while I'm driving

You need to have the codes checked before any proper diagnosis can be started. If the light is on solid it can be any number of emissions related problems. If the light is blinking however then the problem lies within either the fuel or ignition or possibly an air or vacuum leak. Once you have the code definitions the diagnosis can be taken further. Remember most codes do not tell you what the problem is. They tell which system or sub system is being affected. For instance if a code for an oxygen sensor is shown, this does not mean the oxygen sensor is bad. It means that either to much fuel or to much air was detected in the exhaust by the sensor. That problem would likely be an ignition system problem. No ignition no burn of the fuel or air. There are other causes of course. But the point is if the fuel is not ignited then the sensor will show as reading a high voltage (to much fuel it never burned) or if the sensor was reading a low voltage then to much air. ( an air or vacuum leak, or no fuel being delivered to that cylinder) Both of those scenarios would have a blinking check engine light which signifies what is called a misfire.

I have a new alternator plus battery and two1100 watts speakers in my trunk....when i tryd to start my car it didnt. the lights are on but when i turn key to start nothing happens but the dash lights...

If your battery and alternator need constant replacement it can be because the alternator is not powerful enough to power a large amplifier and is simply burning itself out. But it isn't the only possibility, and it may not be the reason your car won't start. Autozone does not have the equipment to do a thorough charging system diagnosis, they can only check the alternator and battery. Take your car to a qualified repair shop to have the charging and starting systems properly diagnosed. After that is taken care of, you might want to install a high output alternator and a second, standalone battery dedicated to your sound system and maybe a capacitor designed for subwoofers. Good luck.

Window, interior lights, car alarm and fuse keep on burning out

you have a short circuit or burned out wires somewhere, could be anywhere.
Try disconnecting the alarm, taking the bulb out of the interior lights, and putting in the fuse, if it blows again you know that the alarm or interior lights are not at fault, if it stays good replace the bulb and if it blows theres your faulty circuit, if it stays good then the windows are at fault.

Engine / emission light and burned out alternator

Oxygen sensor might be faulty, as it causes the light to come on, but injectors hardly causes the light to come on, alternator( battery) light is an indication that the alternator needs to be replaced.
