Though some suggest it might be cleaned with carb cleaner I think it would be best to replace this valve if it is sticking.

HOW TO FIX THIS CODE p0446 code

The EGR (Evaporative Gas Recirculation) system has several components. The most likely one to cause an error is the EGR Position Sensor, located at the throttle body. If the EGR Sensor has become disconnected, has failed, or is sensing that the EGR valve has become stuck, it will generate an error. Check the EGR valve to be sure it isn't stuck, and check the EGR Position Sensor to be sure it is operating properly.

Also, in some cases, if the Canister Purge Valve has failed, it will generate an error. The Canister Purge Valve is usually located at one of the front fenders near the Carbon Canister.

Newly installed EGR Valve stuck open

A code P0411 means that there is insufficient flow in your secondary air injection system, this is totally separate from the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Has the vehicle been re-scanned? You should also know that if an egr valve is stuck open, the vehicle would be almost un-driveable, as it would create a huge vacuum leak.
If the same code is coming up, I would take a very close look at the hoses going to and from the injection pump. Check for any kinks or damage.

What would be the first and most likely reason for my 1997 buick lesabre to be giving me a egr pintle position circuit malfunction?

This code indicates a problem with the EGR valve's pintle position. The EGR Valve's pintle could just be stuck in which case the problem could be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve.

If the EGR valve is electronically controlled or cleaning the valve does not fix the problem, you will most likely have to replace the EGR Valve.

Keep in mind that the EGR valve relies on inputs from other sensors to determine the pintle position. If one of these other sensors is not operating correctly, it could be giving you a false P1406 error code.

Grand carvan gives p402 code

This is not a cut and dry fault code. This means that more than one thing wrong can set the code in the computers memory. Here is the low down on the P0402 fault code. This is from the OBD2 fault code diagnostic book.

P0402 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected
Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine hesitation
Possible causes - EGR solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- EGR solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection
- EGR volume control valve stuck closed
- Dead (Weak) battery
- Faulty EGR temperature sensor and circuit
- Faulty EGR Valve
- EGR passage clogged
- Exhaust gas leaks

My car is showing the code p1406 and p0108 and it started moving very slow and hesitate to move

Welcome to Fixya.

P1406 code means there is a problem with the EGR valve's pintle position. The EGR Valve's pintle could just be stuck in which case the problem could be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve.
If the EGR valve is electronically controlled or cleaning the valve does not fix the problem, you will most likely have to replace the EGR Valve.

P0108 code means there is a problem with the MAP sensor. You should replace it. This sesnsor is usually located between the air filter and the throttle body. It senses how much air is going into the throttle body so the car knows how much fuel to inject.

FAILED EGR VALVE

The EGR valve helps your car more efficiently and completely burn fuel by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again. This results in a cooler, more complete burn of the fuel which decreases you car's noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases.

The EGR valve is vital to your car's emission controls.

When the EGR valve goes bad, it must be replaced - it cannot be repaired.

  • EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.
  • The EGR valve controls formation of noxious emissions.
  • Rough idle and poor acceleration can be caused by a faulty EGR valve.

  • The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing. Unfortunately, your EGR valve can get stuck, causing NOX gases to build up. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on accelertaion.

The only short term problem is a decrease in gas mileage - but it should really be replaced before sensors become sooted or your cat. convertor gets overworked prematurely.

    Code 404

    Hi my name is Allen!

The code 404 doesn't mean anything unless you read the code book, but if its pertaining to the EGR Valve Position Sensor Low or High. This means the EGR Sensor is stuck and the EGR Valve will need to be replaced and the code cleared.
