Turns over but won't start after it sits for a day

Turns over fine, but won't start after it sits for a day or two. I can put a charger on it and seems to start after a few tries. took it to auto zone and had them check the battery and they said it was ok. changed fuel filter but that did'nt solve anything. I used to be able to turn key and would start right up. once it starts it runs good until it sits for a day. any solutions? also have a vacume hose missing at regulater

I had a similar problem caused by humidity and a short in the distributor cap so replaced the distributor cap and rotor. Problem solved. Don't buy discount branded parts or you will have the same problem again in a few weeks. Really cheap price equals really cheap parts that will fail early.

I agree with checking the cap and rotor, if this is a 1996 5.0 or 5.7 this could be the cause. I found with some of these vehicles they were worse when garaged. especially in damp locations. Easiest way to tell is when it doesnt start right away pull a wire and check for spark. Check for spark from coil and leaving one of terminals leaving the cap. If this is not the problem you may try a leak down test, and check fuel pressure. Some of these years had what was called a pop up valve in the plenum and if the fuel pressure was to low or bled off, this would give you a hard start. Is the check engine light on? if it is do you have a way to retrieve the codes? scanner? Hope this helps

You may have internal engine damage . broken cam or can.. try to turn the engine manually with a wrench to see if there is any problem while rotate it. In the cold weather when you start engine especially been sitting for too long, engine part need to be lubricated fast otherwise damage it will occur. check and smell the engine oil for strange condition

Won't start after sitting for a few days

Could be loosing fuel pressure thru the pressure regulator or the valve in the fuel pump. The pressure should hold for several days when the engine is off.
I would have the fuel pressure tested before and after you try to start the engine.

2000 gmc jimmy starts in AM fine won't start after sitting in sun all day

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

Oil will collect condensation if left sitting for a few days and even more if sitting for longer periods. Engines are meant to run and not to sit doing nothing. Moister will collect on the upper part of the engine componets easier were oil does not stay. Run to engine for at least 15 minutes per day or until the temp range is at the normal setting. After a week or so the ticking noise maybe gone hopefully. If not a weak lifter is most likely the problem
