whether it is the smaller (4R70w) or the bigger (E4OD), the solenoids are under the pan. The E4OD solenoids are in one big block where the other trans has them seperated

If you're asking about the electronic pressure control solenoid, it's on the driver side of the valve body. There are 4 sols on that side, it's the one closest to the rear. It's bigger & heavier than the other 3.

Pressure control solenoid ? I'm assuming your talking about transmission pressure control solenoid .
Pressure Control Solenoids (PCA, PCB, PCC)
The PC solenoids are a variable-force style (VFS) solenoid. The VFS-type solenoid is an electrohydraulic actuator combining a solenoid and a regulating valve.
The line pressure tap is used to verify output pressure from PC A or PC B by turning either one off while verifying the output from the other solenoid. The 2nd pressure tap is used to verify the output from the PC C solenoid.
There are 3 PC solenoids located in the solenoid body assembly used to control line pressure, band and clutch application pressure within the transmission.
The PCM varies the current to the PC solenoid.
The PCM has an adaptive learn strategy to electronically control the transmission which will automatically adjust the shift feel. When the battery has been disconnected or a new battery installed, certain transmission operating parameters may be lost. The PCM must relearn these parameters. During this learning process you may experience slightly firm shifts, delayed or early shifts. This operation is considered normal and will not affect the function of the transmission. Normal operation will return once these parameters are stored by the PCM.
It is inside the transmission part of the Solenoid Body Assembly ..The pan has to be taken off the bottom of transmission to get at it .

03 shift solenoid in a ford focus

IT DOESN'T SAY THE SOLENOID IS BAD, JUST THAT IT HAS A PROBLEM IN THE CIRCUIT TO THE SOLENOID, THIS CAN BE WIRING OR THE SOLENOID THAT IS AT ISSUE. THE SOLENOID IS PART OF A PACK OF SHIFT SOLENOIDS AND IT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, YOU MUST REMOVE THE PAN FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS ATTACHED TO THE VALVE BODY. THIS IS A VERY MESSY JOB BECAUSE THERE IS NO FLUID DRAIN PLUG.

2003 Ford Focus p1747 short solenoid error

THIS IS A COMMON CODE.. THIS IS A PRESSURE SELENOID LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION.... SOMETIMES CALLED A SHIFT SELENOID... THERE IS A FIRST TO SECOND SHIFT SELENOID AND A SECOND TO THIRD AND A THIRD TO OVERDRIVE... THE SHORT CIRCUIT CODE CAN BE TWO THINGS.. FIRST A BAD SPOT IN WIRING HARNESS CAUSING SHORT CONDITION.. DOUBTFULL... OTHER CONDITION IS THE SELENOID ITS SELF COULD BE GOING BAD DRAWING MORE CURRENT THAN NORMAL. THIS WILL REGISTER THIS CODE....YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION PAN TO EXSPOSE THE VALVE BODY.. THERE YOU WILL SEE SEVERAL SHIFT SELENOIDS...WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE REPLACEMENT IT WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD IDEA WHAT TO LOOK FOR....THEY JUST PLUG IN AND 1 OR 2 SCREWS HOLD THEM IN.... LET ME KNOW IF MORE HELP NEEDED

Could anyone tell me how to find the "shift solenoid" for a ford explorer?

geode07 : Not knowing which shift solenoid you are seeking, I will give you both.
The first has to do with the internals of the transmission. The "Transmission" shift solenoid referenced there is located within the main control body assembly.
The second is referred to as a "Shift interlock Solenoid"
This is located within the steering column.
