SOURCE: 2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off...

When you hook the pressure test guage to shrader valve on fuel rail what it reads is what the pressure is from pump, around 60 p.s.i. all you need to do is hook up the guage and turn on key, you do not have to turn engine over, and if pump is good it will shoot up to 58 or 60 right now.

SOURCE: 2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off...

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.

SOURCE: 1996 gmc jimmy 4.3 very hard to start hot or cold

It sounds like you have a pin hole in the hose that goes to the fuel pump in the gas tank. The pump is mounted on springs and it is common for the plastic hose to get a hole rubbed in it from one of the springs. This usually cause the vehicle to be real hard to get started when it is cold.

I change the motor in my 96 dodge 1500 now it won't start acts like its not getting gas

You would need a voltmeter to diagnose the fuel pump circuit. Or you could put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve test port to check fuel pressure. Just turning the key to on should cause the pump to run for 2 seconds, putting pressure in the lines and at the fuel rail and injectors. Now the pressure should show pretty high, often over 50 psi for multi port injection. Can you hear the hum or buzz of the pump running for 2 seconds with key turned to on? One test is to spray some starting fluid into the throttle (air) intake and see if engine fires on that. If it tries to run then, well sure enough it wasn't getting gas. Now you'll have to check the fuel pump and circuit.

Loss of power when appling pressure to throttle, surging happens

There are a few thing that can cause this type of problem, A weak fuel pump is the most common, not enough fuel pressure . the pump puts out just enough to start and idle but when gas is applied it sputters and pops and stalls out. I would start with having the fuel pressure tested, a fuel pressure gauge will be needed to perform this test. you may be able to rent one from auto parts store, you will connect at the injector rail, there will be a valve , like the tire air valve. screw end of gauge to valve and start engine and see what the pressure is. the pressure needs to be at 38 psi, or test pressure without starting just turning key on and then pressure needs to be 47- 50 psi.

If the pressure is lower than the specs then pump is bad..
the other problems could be a bad tps sensor or mass air flow sensor, but from the way you listed what the problem is doing i would have to say start with the fuel pump testing first,

Sometimes trouble shooting can be very difficult with no codes. It may be the (TPS) throttle positioning sensor (on the throttle body) OR it may be the fuel pressure valve (on the end of fuel rail)

Not recieving gas to crank.

You jimmy has no throttle body, the injectors are in the intake manifold in front of the intake ports. To have them activate, you need 62 to 65 PSI at the shredder valve. Anything different will not activate the injectors and DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE BY PORING GAS THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODY. It's been know for the gas to catch fire and burn up the poppet valves, (fuel injectors) which will result in a $1,500 Spider injector replacement. If you do not have the proper fuel pressure, chances are the fuel pump will need to be replaced. When replacing the fuel pump, replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame, it's only $12.00 and will keep the gremlins away. Good luck and keep me posted, the other thing too that would cause the injectors not to fire is a bad ignition modulator with is located under the rotor in the distributor. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your jimmy running again soon.

Fuel system

HI,WHAT I WOULD IS GET SOMEONE TO LIE DOWN WHERE THE FUEL TANK IS AND WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON YOU SHOULD HERE THE FUEL PUMP KICK IN. IF YOU DON,T, GRAB A TEST LIGHT AND GO UNDER THE TRUCK AND FIND THE WIRES THAT GO TO YOUR TANK, THERE SHOULD BE 3 OR 4 OF THEM AND THERE SHOULD BE A PLACE WHERE THEY UNPLUG. FIND THE WIRE THAT GOES TO YOUR PUMP BY TURNING THE KEY ON AND OFF. YOU MAY ONLY HAVE A WIRE OFF OR BROKE OR THE PUMP MAY BE BAD. I HOPE THIS HELPS. JIMBO

Engine cutting out

Check the vacuum with a gauge at the intake manifold below the intake there should be 18 lbs.of pressure or higher if not a vacuum leak is causing the problem, if vacuum checks out ok it may be the Mass Air Flow sensor , recheck the mechanical timing to ensure it is correct by bringing the engine to TDC firing stroke check the distributor to ensure the rotor is pointed to #1 and remove a valve cover and observe the intake valve to #1 cylinder as you bring the motor manually to tdc make sure both the intake and the exhaust valves shut completely when the piston is located TDC and the crankshaft pulley pointer and marker is lined up to zero, if the mechanical or static timing is ok check to ensure there is 30 - 40 psi of fuel pressure at the fuel rail if fuel injected or throttle body injected there is a schrader valve on the fuel rail to access and check the pressure with a gauge.

Van starts but does not stay running

Inadequate fuel pressure the fuel pressure must be checked at the fuel rail on top of the motor There is an access valve (schrader valve with cap) but you need a pressure tester to use it to detect the 30 psi + needed to run the van, cosidering the age of the vehicle it may have throttle body injection, try changing the fuel filter but before doing so let the vehicle sit with out the key on for at least 20 min. to allow the high pressure in the line to come down gas in the eyes is very unpleasant.

How do I check to see if my fuel pump is working? 1995 Cavalier LS. 2.2 litre, throttle body fuel injection. I want to make sure it isn't something else before I drop the gas tank.

first check the fuel relay to see if it's bad, and to make sure it is a fuel problem turn the key on listen for the pump to run for 2 seconds. Do you here it? if yes then you Will need to see if it is getting fuel to the fuel rail to do this there is a valve on the fuel rail that looks like a bicycle tire valve remove the valve cover and after you have cycled the switch on and off once see if yo press on the stem there is gas shooting out, if not then it is your problem, also test for spark plug spark plug one plug wire install a screwdriver into the plug boot and put it within a 1/4 inch of a good ground crank the engine over and watch for blue spark. is there a spark? Yes? then check the fuel pump, by the way did you replace the fuel filter? and if you want to test the fuel pump first rent a fuel pump tester from Auto-zone, they will give you your money back. Hook it up turn the key on and watch the pressure, it should reach 50 PSI and hold for 30 seconds to 20 PSI if it does not hold or pressurize then pump is bad. If it does work crank engine over with air cleaner off and open throttle plate on the throttle body, do you see it pulsing a lot of fuel into the engine while cranking? if yes then it is a spark problem or out of time, need more help then reply to this post.
