My car is a 1994 Toyota Corolla, 4-Door Coupe, can not get trunk lid open. I have checked the release inside the car. It is functional. Assuming the cable has slipped, or broken, inside the trunk. How do I get the trunk open?

i have a 1997 corolla trunk will not open with key(lock never worked from time i bought it used. i always used lever inside car to pop trunk). anyways, lever broke and now i cannot open trunk. dealer asking for crazy money to repair! in meantime, i bought brand new trunk lock cylinder and hope to open trunk and install it so i can open trunk with new keys. not worried about fixing inside trunk release since i will be able to open trunk from outside with key. can i drill the lock out? i tried using needle nose to lift the lever but no luck. wife complaining help!

The trunk release cable runs along the inside edge of the car, under the carpet, on the driver side. It then snakes up over the metal under the rear seat, and then into the trunk, running along the trunk hinge/arm, driver's side. You will need to remove the rear seat bottonm and the seat back, and pull the carpet back on the driver's side to see the cable... More below:
-------> Before you do all of that, unbolt the latch handle and see if the plastic tab on the latch that holds the cable is broken; the cable release wires rarely fail, I replace handle assemblies regularly, never a cable. Maybe you just need a handle assby. Feel free to comment back if you need more assistance; Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My 1997 Toyota Corolla trunk is stuck I can hear it unlock but it won't open

Many times you can get to the trunk by taking off the back of your back seat (some even fold down for trunk access). Something is stuck or caught. If you can try a key, do so. Be sure to find and fix the problem. Could be a broken cable or the lock mechanism needs lubrication. Check and lubricate the trunk panel lifters as well. They may need replacing. Good luck!

Corolla trunk

Wrong keys or wrong car?. lOL
the cable release won't work if the trunk kew was in lock horizontal position. It needs to be vertical when key is removed. More penetrating fluid and try to force key rocking back and forth in and out. Use lots of wd40 or penetrating fluids and repeat. This will work. Also make sure you are using a master key only. Black top.

1997 Corolla. The trunk release lever works, but, all of a sudden, I cannot use either of my keys to open the trunk. No, these are not valet keys, they are both masters from the original owner, which I...

You've taken the steps to loosen it, sounds like it is completely bad, you may have to get it replaced at this point, the cylinders probably have gone bad at this point, or try and have a new key made it might catch them better. Good luck

I went to open my 2005 Toyota Corolla trunk using my car key. When I rotated the key, the mechanism went 90 degrees CCW but the trunk remained locked. I tried the trunk release in the car but it wouldn't...

If you have rear seats that fold down you can access the latch mechanism from the left side rear seat....if you are flexible. pull the corner of the seat forward to allow your arm to slide in behind. about 14-16" in, feeling up inside the trunk you can feel 3 quarter size holes in the sheet metal. The second hole has the cable release arm. stick your finger up there are pull towards you. this will release the seat allowing it to fold down. Crawl into the trunk. there is a glow in the dark release handle on the inside of the trunk lid to open the trunk. Note, these are instructions for an '04 corolla but I think it should work

My trunk release does not work. remote doesnt work either. theres no power to switch and no power going to release mec. fuse is good. jumped release and it worked. i lost power to it somewere. 2001 grand...

wire may be broken. if you jumped it and it worked you can run anew wire from the switch to the the fuse block where the original wire is. Trying to follow the wire under and inside of the dash will take a lot of time and you will need to take dashboard apart.

I have a corolla 2003 and I had the same problem. I turned the key to the left and the lock turned left, engaging the valet parking mechanism. I could not turn the key to the right and could not get access to the trunk because the lever next to the driver seat was disengaged.
The way I solved this problem is as follow:on the back driver seat I pulled the back seat forward to leave an opening and snick my arm in the trunck. Then I grabbed the cable used to latch the seat and I pulled forward, i.e. toward the front of the car. The cable is connectred to the trunck so that it can be disconnected easily if pulled towards the front. If you pull towards the back it will remain attached to the trunck. So grab the cable an pull towards the front, and it will release itself. Since the cable is flexible, you can pull it out of the trunk from the same the opening you put your arm, and then disenagage the driver back seat. Fold forward the back seat and get into the trunk and use the lever in the latch of the trunck to open it. The turnk will open.

If the lock does not turn, you need to disconnect the lock from the mechanism, so that the driver seat lever can start working again. To do this, and with the trunk open, remove the cover holded by nine plastic pins. Do not break the pins. After removing the cover, you will see the lock holded by two nuts. Remove the nuts with a rachet. The lock will be loose, and disconnect the lever that connects the lock to the latch. At this point the driver seat lever will start working again. Close the trunk and verify that the driver seat lever opens the trunk. Now you can open and close the trunk , and have time to call the dealer for a new lock.
Good luck.
