1988 nissan VG30i engine stalls sporadically

Just replaced, plugs , points, plugwires, new gasket on carb/injector, set timing etc. Runs strong and smooth but without reason the engine will die. Restarts easily, no problem, then may run for a few min. or an hour? Could this be the air flow meter? or egr? Thankyou so much for any help, I am located in southern Baja, Mexico on a family trip.

SOURCE: running lean at idle & rough idle stalling.

Replace the fuel filter, have the fuel pressure check,it is most likely the fuel pump.

SOURCE: Why would my 1990 Mustang GT be runing extremely

The coolant temp. sensor you replaced - was the new one plastic or metal? There is a reported very high failure rate in the plastic sensors, and it is recommended that you go back to the metal style. Check the signal wire for the sensor - it should be less than .7 volts. If it is out of range, replace the sensor with a metal one.

It could also be caused by excessively high fuel pressure - caused by a sticking fuel pressure regulator, or a restricted fuel return line.
If you are able to check fuel pressure, it should have 35 - 45psi with key on, pump running - and 30 - 45 psi idling

Let me know how you make out!

Hard starting, stalling

Check the fuel pressure, make sure it doesn't bleed down after the car sits, that causing long crank times/hard starting.

Running rough& stalling

Brenda, this could be a lot of different things to cause hard start and stalling. Faulty crank sensor, idle air control valve, EGR, vacuum leak, injectors, fuel pump, ignition circuit, distributor faulty, plugs, wires, plugged exhaust, etc. Find a good technician check the codes and have them diagnose and give an estimate on repair. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Misfire cyl 5 have replaced plugs, plugwires, cap and rotor with top of the line to cheap parts only only does this when it rains or snows?

check for a problem in the injector wiring for that cylinder
check for corrosion in the connections
replace that injector control
injectors cause more misfires than plugs and associated electric do

Car stalled and will not restart

It is possible to have fuel pressure and have injectors that are completely closed. There are light testers that plug into the injector harness to check the pulse to open an injector. Available at autoparts with Tool loaner program.

Try starting fluid to see if it wants to run, If it does, then injectors are not opening, then find cause like camshaft sensor. At that point, like other Expert said, it could be Vacuum leak.

Will not turn over can mean several things. Is it cranking? Is it engaging and not moving the engine? If the starter is not moving then you have to go through the interlocks with brake pedal and shifter. But these work after the engine runs and would not cause it to stall.

Try the starting fluid and see if the spark is working, then shift to fuel delivery if it tries to start.

My guess would be a leak in the intake manifold gasket at #4. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake manifold gasket where I have circled below to see if the engine speeds up while idling. If the engine reacts to the carb cleaner, replace the gasket. Let me know if you need the procedure.

Bad gas milage, stalling at light and major hesitation

I think that you need new intake manifold gasket. do the rpm's go up and down while engine is running?? if so, then gat your self some carb cleaner in a spray can and spray it at the injector rail as the car is idling/running . if the rpm's smooth out and car runs ok for few seconds, than the gasket is broken. good luck.

Idle

i strongly suspect a vacuum leak.. check for disconnected hoses or intake area leaking by spraying carb cleaner around those areas while idling.. if engine personality changes you are close

2001 Nissan Altima with service engine light on

I would check your intake gasket. Get your self ome carb cleaner in a spray form/can and perfrom this test. Run the car and spray the carb cleaner on your intake gasket which is right by your injectors. So pretty nuch spray it at the injector rail and listen fot change in idle, If the idle changes, the intake gasket is torn and you are running lean, because of a vaccum leak. Common problem on your model car. Perform test and let me know what you find.

1993 altima

check fuel pressure. check distributor, leaks oil internally onto the signal plate, could cause rough running and stalling. check intake gasket. spray carb claener at the injectors and listen for engine noise change. if it changes, than intake gasket is gone. very common problem. has the car been tuned up??has the base idle ever been adjusted?? checked?? if so, than check items above.
