Just replaced, plugs , points, plugwires, new gasket on carb/injector, set timing etc. Runs strong and smooth but without reason the engine will die. Restarts easily, no problem, then may run for a few min. or an hour? Could this be the air flow meter? or egr? Thankyou so much for any help, I am located in southern Baja, Mexico on a family trip.
Hi, The Flow meter because it's not happening all the time so air is the problem cheers. Please leave me feed back Malcolm Campbell, [email protected] Thanks.
SOURCE: 87 gl egr light on / is there an after market fuel
if you look in the owners manual i think this light turns on to alert you to clean the egr system, valve should be removed clean all ports and valve,to reset the light there are a set of connectors under dash that need to be switched to turn the light off, this goes way back for me but i belive i am correct good luck
SOURCE: running lean at idle & rough idle stalling.
Replace the fuel filter, have the fuel pressure check,it is most likely the fuel pump.

The coolant temp. sensor you replaced - was the new one plastic or metal? There is a reported very high failure rate in the plastic sensors, and it is recommended that you go back to the metal style. Check the signal wire for the sensor - it should be less than .7 volts. If it is out of range, replace the sensor with a metal one.
It could also be caused by excessively high fuel pressure - caused by a sticking fuel pressure regulator, or a restricted fuel return line.
If you are able to check fuel pressure, it should have 35 - 45psi with key on, pump running - and 30 - 45 psi idling
Let me know how you make out!
