Motor will not shut off

New Start keyMoter still will not shut down starts but have to pull coil wire to get off help?

Usually too high of an idle (should be 800 when engine warmed) or timing is too high.

First think I would do is start your vehicle and start to pull the plug wires one at a time, when doing this you should hear the motor bog down when you pull a plug wire, in the event you do not hear it bog down then that means that cylinder is dead. 1. see if it getting spark to the plug 2. if not that could mean that coil going to that plug is bad, but that should come up on a scanner, but one never knows. Why would 1995 toyota hiace with 2rz motor with carby shuts down when hot.


what you should have in the electronic distributor is an ignition module with a coil outside wired to the distributor. The ignition module creates the pulses needed for the coil to generate extreme high voltage . If that coil is incorrect voltage for the system then it is most probably overheating and failing to work. There are to voltage coils that can be used . One is a straight 12 volt coil that starts and runs on 12 volts and the other is a start on 12 and runs on 7.5 volts with the run circuit going through a resistor or resistor wire . Check out which coil should be in your car and if correct (7.5) check the voltage to the coil with a multimeter and it be should read 7.5 volts when the ignition is in the run position

Ignition issues


Trying to diagnose others work can be difficult but have done it many times. First I need to know basically at this point if you are getting power to the dark green & orange wire at each injector as well as the dark green and orange wire at the coil itself. If you have an ohm meter check to see if you are getttting continuity from that wire at the coil as to any of those wires (dark green and orange) at any of the injectors. Below is a picture of some relays under the hood. The one with the red arrow is the auto shutdown relay which will cause no power to all those dark green and orange wires. You may still have fuel prssure but this will shut down power to the injectors as well as power at that wire to the coil. The other relays that have the x out mark are needed but the one with the yellow arrow is the A/C clutch relay. I'm not 100 percent sure so check the numbers to see if they match. If they do swap those 2 out to see if it may be a relay issue. This is what I would start at first. Start from point "A" the basics (this test) and go on to the next step. There are fuse links as well but lets start here. Feel free to email me directly for any other tests if needed at csautomotivecars@att.net and I will be happy to try and help. No there won't be a cost to you but do remind me of what's been done so far as well as the model and engine size. Hope it's something this simple for you...

Hello all. I had a 300zxtt motor with worn rings( blows dipstick out of the engine) and i pulled it out, changed over all the wiring as the old harness from the origional motor still works so i removed it...


Hi, I think you have not connected the proper electrical wirings it needs to feed the coil, starter motor and distributor, Try retrace your step again you must have missed some wire connection.
You're running with the twin turbo ones I assume. So by way of description you have done all the right thing except power the motor propperly. Cheers

My '87 Buick Electra V6 3.8L starts&drives fine until it shuts off whenever,pull over, sit awhile,start it&drive,if it wants 2,until it shuts off.pull over,wait sometimes seconds or min.&so...


Check the primary and secondary resistance of the cil pack & the resistance of the spark plug wires. Those specs are in any motor manul. Also verify the gap on the plugs.

97 gmc sierra shut off well driving and wont start anymore but it turns over?


I really dont think its the ignition module.Those are a little expensive so i wouldnt buy one until you sure thats the problem.I would turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump.The pump only runs for about 3-5 secs when you first do it.If you dont hear anything thats the ploblem.If you can hear the pump come on try to use starting fluid to get it started.If it starts and runs fine then the fuel pump doesnt put out enough pressure to start the truck and need to be replaced.If that doesn t work take a spark plug out of the motor and plug it back into the wire.When you try to start the truck it should make a bright blue spark.If the spark is not bright and fast it could be many things like that plug or that wire all the plugs and wires or the distibutor cap or the rotor.It could also be the coil.If you have the money you should replace all of that stuff.If your on a budget like me I would change the distibutor cap and rotor and see if that help.If the plugs and wires are fairly new change the coil.You should do your plugs and wires after so many mile or time period.Im sure its not the Ignition control module.The guy at the part store always says that might be the problem and ive never bought one yet.My truck has 250,000 miles on it and still going.

overheating could be caused by a stuck thermostat or a clogged radiator not firing on #1 plug could be a fouled plug or bad wire or it may be grounding on the block and your coiil may not have been put in at the right mark

Car problem


I think that problem is in the fuel pump.
The pump send too many fuel in the motor and then it stops.He starts again when fuel evaporated.

No Spark from coil


i don't beleve 3 volt is enaf for the coil it has to be at least 9 volts
if this car has a resistor on the car or on the circuit going from ignition switch to ignition coil replace it, but if it does not have one then it has to have one built in the circuit wish is going to be very hard to find i will recomed you to get straight ignition power from ignition sw, to an aftermarket ignition resistor and from there to the positive side of ignition coil,
but also let me know what promaster means? is that the brand? or is that a performance coil?
and does your car has elecgtronic? or points system ignition distribuitor.
